Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
I'd be willing to bet anything that Mayweather fights in 2008. No matter what he says, he's a boxer, it's what he does, and he's the best in the world at what he does. He's not going anywhere.
His whole career, he's wanted to be a PPV star and make big paydays, he's now reached the point where he's at that level. He's not going to walk away from it.
Floyd's a smart business man, he's basically playing "hard to get." He says he's retired, but he's just keeping the price tag high. If someone wants to fight him, then he needs to be paid accordingly.

I don't....but i wouldn't mind if he did. I really don't see him being beat by anyone anytime soon. His best chance of loosing is fighting past him prime.

:coolclick: #383 Pea. I agree 100%. Cotto needs to goad him. Do what Ricky did and get under his skin. Floyd will eventually say "make the fight" and everyone is happy. IMO of his era, beating Cotto will prove his greatness even further. He will have taken every fight people asked him to. There will be nothing left to do after this.
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
On another note... Did anyone else pay attention to his post fight interview?
He also said:
"GBP & Mayweather Promotions is the future of boxing" - PBF
So I guess ODLH is becoming like his mentor as far as business/promoting goes...
Interesting.... :detective:
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
Mayweather will see what his options are.
By that i mean, he'll sit back, let the WW's fight it out, see who's calling him out, see if the money matches the demand and bang. He'll 'make the fukin fight happen'. ;)

Mayweather isnt nearly as buisiness minded and and shrewd as De La Hoya. If he was he would have had a more popular career but he couldnt even market himself. Oscars been promoting something since his amateur days. Just the fact that he can get the kind of ppv numbers today proves that Oscar is damn good at what he does, not so sure about Floyd though.
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
He'll be back, 2007 was really the year that Floyd became a mainstream star. Now he's finally got all the attention his ability has deserved no way he's going to just walk away.
He's in the most competitive division in boxing with some of the most lucrative potential paydays in front of him.
For him to pull out now would have been like the yanks pulling out of Iraq once they got their tanks rolled into Bahgdad's central square and had Saddam climbing into his little hole in the ground.

Cotto just beat Mosley. why not now? what is with you man, why not now?
Simply just can't understand it, hum maybe I can.

Floyd has been at the top of boxing for years. He's just faced and beaten Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton which whether your a hater or not is a better record than ANY other fighter in 2007.
He's more than entitled to take a year or so out to enjoy his success and wait to see who ermerges as the biggest talent at 147.
If Cotto wins against Williams, De Le Hoya or Margarito in 08 his star will continue to grow and a fight with Maweather will be huge.
Sometimes it's better to wait......
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
It's his job and he knows he can only do it for a couple of more years, he will be back for the Puerto Rican day Parade to introduce himself to Mr Cotto!
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
And i hope Cotto beats him and then they have a rematch and then another rematch. Then PBF has a tirlogy with Williams and then pbf will be in the top 15 pound for pound of all time.
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
He didn't actually RETIRE...Just taking some time off...he prettyt much just said it's either MEGA bouts or nothing...can't blame him in a way...But he never actually said I AM RETIRED....he specified 2008-2009
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
Well i think Pbf will fight Cotto by the end of 2008 after Cotto has another big win it will happen.
Re: Does Anybody Really Take Mayweather's Retirement Seriously ??
Well if goes like no problem for me. I hope Cotto fights Oscar. When he wins I hope Floyd will finally acceps the money that will be involved.
The funny thing is that Oscar will always have his shar of $$$$$ of what ever happens LOL
