Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
it seemed like if Ponce was giving too much respect to a fellow countryman Escobedo. Escobedo kept his head down way too much to protect himself from those chopping lefts from Ponce. Ref Bayless did a good job of recognizing it wasnt Ponce fault for almost dropping a left chop on Escobedo's back side. I do think he'll be ready for a fight where he comes out as an underdog or he fights someone outside his ethnicity. Then the hunger and rage will come out. HBO didnt even interview him
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
when i first heard about this guy he came with a big reputation, but evrytime i've seen him he's dissapointed me, he doesn't have much in the art of defence, throws wild shots and lacks ideas when he can't get the other guy out of there in 5 rounds, but he does have a solid chin and packs a good punch
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
He was very unimmpressive in his last fight imo. Escobedo was actually a better fighter imo. De Leons punches are way to wide and his defence is lacking. He is tough but is beatable at this level and unless he improves his winning streak will be ended soon enough. Caballero, Vasquez, and Marquez would all beat him imo.

Not sure if people already know this but hes been nicknamed 'The Stone Thrower' (El Tirador De Piedras).
Oh I agree. De Leon has a lot of flaws. But that punch is very wicked. And it's capable of bailing him out in fights he's losing. I can see him knocking them 3 fighters out if they decided to trade with him. Marquez and Vazquez would at the most risk since they also possess a big punch. And they like to show it. And that would be a problem against De Leon. But Marquez and Vazquez are both smart fighters. And I doubt they'll put themselves in that position.
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
De Leon proved to be one of those over-hyped power brutes waiting to be exposed, just like Darch and Barrios (I think Katsidis also falls in this department). I'm not sure about his chin either, maybe pretty good chin but super-duper chin? naw I doubt it cuz I saw him get hurt by Escobedo and Penalosa. As almost everyone sez here, it's obvious he needs some makeover to be able to stay out there.
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
one thing for sure he bored me to death on saturday

I thought escobado did well but de leon did enough to win the fight. I found it quite interesting because escobado was obviously more skilled and de leon the champ and i think he was stretched a bit but managed to pull it off for which he should get some credit. But CMM is right i think Marquez and Vasquez etc should be able to get on top but i guess it depends on how well De Leon adapts to their style.
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
I would Love to see Juan Manuel Lopez "Juanma" vs Ponce de LEon I think it would be a great matchup
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
Biggest Puncher in the division is probably Martinez now...(although i suspect he'll move up soon although he just broke into the top ten.)
De Leon's own punch is respectable, but he doesn't throw punches correctly and as a result doesn't benefit from his natural power as much as he potentially could.
Usually an exciting fighter, but can see limitations against a reasonably slick boxer with good movement.
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
I don't like him, I guess he's exciting to most people cause of his power but he's too sloppy, too much of a plodder, something about him I just don't like.
Should have been a Penalosa rematch, wouldn't mind seeing him in against Caballero again but I suspect his management doesn't want that.

I don't know about that bro,30 kos in 34 fights including plenty of 1 punch kos tells me he knows how to throw a KO punch.
Ponce is an exciting fighter and always dangerous....if you're standing right in front of him. If you're not,he looks HORRIBLE,throws the wildest roundhouse punches you'll ever see and actually turns from a power puncher into a volume puncher because he knows he can't land cleanly so he tries to overwhelm opponents he can't catch.
I consider myself a fan,I've seen about 1o of his fights and all have been exciting but keep him away from Molitor and Caballaro. Molitor's movement and Caballaro's height are too much for him,he admitted that after the Caballero fight and I think that is the ONLY guy Ponce does not want to fight.
Tough, strong, powerfuldetermined, big heart combined with awkward, wild, poor technique, awesome stamina and a good chin,oh and uber slow makes a great combination to watch!! ;D ;D
Re: Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.
i ve heard alot about this fighter about him being a big puncher
but i was half impressed after watching him on the undercard of the hatton mayweather fight

Marquez and Vazquez are more experienced, but they will be right in front of De Leon. They will put themselves in position to get caught by de Leon's power punches. But also, they have the power to actually give de Leon second thoughts as opposed to Escobedo, who landed frequently, but with little power. Lopez boxing skills and power will make de Leon look silly. Still, Lopez should have a few more fights with quality opponents before giving de Leon a shot. Lopez has been brought a long well by Arum and he will soon be ready for that title shot. Watch.

Yeah I agree. Lopez needs a couple of more fights before facing De Leon. He has the skills to beat De Leon. But does he have the chin? Bautista showed he didn't
