F*** it, right now...I'm calling Floyd Mayweather out. If he doesn't answer within a week, he's ducking me because he knows I would beat the sorry crap outta him. ;)
Ugh, why did you have to bring this up again? This only lends credence to the Floyd haters. Margo was calling out Floyd well before he ventured into the welterweight division. The truth of it is it's not just about 2 guys fighting. Margarito was a champion who nobody knew. Mayweather would have done ALL the heavylifting and even had Margarito lost he would have been a lot more famous than he was before they fought.
I saw it mentioned in another thread and the topic gripes at me somewhat.
Re: For those who say Floyd ducked Margarito...
Is Margarito anywhere NEAR a p4p list? I think I read on here that at the time when they fought, Corrales was #3. The Most Feared is a self-appointed title. Clottey certainly didn't look afraid when he was slapping Margarito around handily in the first few rounds (he lost, though, I'm not making any issue out of that for whatever the reason was) and Williams certainly wasn't too ruffled. Everything about Margarito is rehash for Mayweather. To think that he is some magical combination of things that DON'T WORK is ridiculous. Once again, not fighting Margarito had more to do with money and visibility. The $8 million rumor put forth by Bob Arum is just a rumor. Bob Arum is still steaming that his #1 horse fled the stable and will do whatever he can to either turn a buck on him or discredit him. Notice how much more visible Tony got after the allegation that Mayweather was offered a ton of cash to fight him. He was a watered down version of a champ who took the path of least resistance to get to lease-regarded title and The Most Feared lost out on his heftiest paydate (Cotto) by accusing Mayweather of ducking and being forced to fight the unknown Paul Williams and losing. Now Arum will use him to build up the other welters in his stable; pimping him out as a tough-as-nails GATEKEEPER.

Uuuh, that's harsh.
Re: For those who say Floyd ducked Margarito...
Here is the thing with Mayweather and there is no getting around it.
He claims to be the Undisputed Welterweight Champion yet the only WW champion he has beat is Baldomir. Who is frankly one of the worst champions in WW history who was lucky to catch Judah in an off night. And Judah ain't that great to begin with.
I respect Floyd but this is the plain truth and there is nothing any of his fans can say to change that.
Re: For those who say Floyd ducked Margarito...
And who has Margarito beaten? Cintron?

I'd submit that Judah had an off night because he stepped in the ring with a superior fighter. He looked like vintage Zab for the first few rounds.

Regardless, it does not change what I said. I have nothing but respect for what Baldomir acomplished at that point in his career, but I still consider him one of the worst champions in WW history.
I have nothing but respect for Floyd and what he has acomplished. But I stand by what I said.

Zab always looks good for the first few rounds.
Re: For those who say Floyd ducked Margarito...
I don't want to get flamed here by Tony fans but he basically has a punchers chance at best.
Maybe has shown that he can deal with a strength and power disadvantage so bang goes Margarito's physical advantages.....
So basically it comes to down to skill and technique
Floyd is pretty much the perfect fighter.
Margarito is far from the perfect fighter.
Therefore....by my reckoning, he has a punchers chance.
Re: For those who say Floyd ducked Margarito...
Let's no get over excited. It doesn't matter who Margarito had beaten.By consensu,he was number 1 or 2 WW in the world at the time. Who had Hatton beaten at WW to get a shot at the lineal WW title? That's the first point and the second point is,Margarito would have done a lot better than Hatton. You can look at it any way you want.
It doesn't matter who you thought would have won.Floyd was offered $8million for a fight he did not take, yet he fought Judah for less the previous fight and Judah was coming off a loss. Anyone calling Margarito a gate keeper knows nothing about boxing.End of.There's disliking a fighter which I can understand but a gatekeeper/journeymen etc shows a COMPLETE lack of knowledge.

Long story short... This would be Floyd's biggest payday and he was afraid. Suddenly the term "If it makes money, it makes sense" was thrown out the window. Everyone wanted to see this fight except those Floyd fans who were afraid to see Floyd lose. (Even his fans were afraid) So Floyd went around contradicting himself back and forth and talking about he was not here to fight the best that he was in it for the money etc. Then Baldo came into the picture and Floyd was all over this fight to face an old Barney Rubble clone of a man. Although Floyd is a risk taker, he is not an idiot risk taker and from the looks of things he never will be which leads me to believe he will not be fighting any of the Welters we want to see him fight.
Although I'll think he'll eventually fight Cotto,I agree with the rest. It's no diss or kick with Foyd. I don't hate Floyd but he did what he did, avoided a career best payday because he knew Tony was a high risk fight. That's fair enough.

That's not the issue. The issue is whether Floyd ducked Tony or not,not who you think would win.

Oh yeah
I jumped right into that one
Sorry mate
Re: For those who say Floyd ducked Margarito...
It's ironic that a Hatton fan made this thread. Margarito has more of a chance at WW than Hatton EVER had. Margarito is more proven at the weight. And IF/WHEN Tony gets a shot at Cotto/PW again and is top 3 at WW again, people calling him gate keeper, journeymen are going to look even more idiotic.

Well if he was a gatekeeper, i wouldn't like to be an up and coming welterweight.
When i thikn gatekeep and journeyman i think of Ben Tackie and Howard Eastman etc...
Margarito is a world class fighter. Big difference.
