This is the fight game!!
I would want nothing more than to see my favorite fighter fight the real best out there. Win or lose. That's the mark of a great fighter.
Go check Donald Trump website if you want to talk about business. Remember the fighters get paid to fight and we pay to see them so we should be demanding great fights.
Cotto has won fighter of the year on Fox Sports Premio 3 years straight so I don't want to hear that he is not a prominent enough name.
Check floyds ppv numbers and against who and you'll realize that he's not the draw in the big ones. The not so big ones, ppv sales are average at best.
Unfortunately though boxing is a business, I want to see Cotto - Mayweather as well, I just want to make sure that the fighters get the maximum exposure. It's not a matter of they wouldn't make money, it's a matter of a build up, the hype machine needs to get going full force. If it was simply a matter of making good matchups, title holders would be fighting 4 times a year, unification bouts would be common place and we wouldn't be able to say "X" is ducking "Y". What's the rush anyway? Cotto has plenty of good opportunities for him at 147. It's like this if Floyd wants to fight, the fight will happen if he wants to retire or take a break, let him..........we can all judge him for those choices. I understand your dilema, but business is a reality of boxing, and if it wasn't there wouldn't be fighters making 8 digit paychecks per fight, and there weren't fighters making 8 digit paychecks a fight, well.......................
I hear you sheep but if you look at half the threads in here, they're about Cotto vs Mayweather.
After Cotto won in Nov., they asked him about floyd in the post fight interview and they asked floyd about Cotto after he won. There's no way around it. It's the biggest fight out there and even the casual fans know it.
The timing couldn't be better with both coming off big wins a month apart. If they wait, there's a chance the interest can fizzle.

Saddo's is the number one boxing site for many reasons, the unusual (for a boxing site) intelligence of it's posters being one of them. ;)
Damn, I think you've been spending too much time on the Saddo Arcade. You sound ridiculous.
We can go back and forth about this all day :argue: but you rarely make sense.
That was a well thought out and articulate post.
It seems that you might be a little upset because some of the words he used were a little too big for you.
Get off his
cock. Like that word?
Yup you're definitely more dogshiteboxing material ^-^

You must spend more time on doghouse boxing than in the saddo arcade the way you know seem to know so much about it.
Saddo is my home!

Re: Am I On The Wrong Site??
I agree to an extent but I have unfortunately become used to Myweather's tactics of waiting for the time when the fight is going to make the most $$$ before taking the fight,as opposed to fighting at the times the fans want to see the fight. Perfect example is the Hatton fight. The time for that was 2 years ago at 140,but we got it 2 years later at 47 when Mayweather deemed Hatton to be a big enough draw.
I forsee him doing the same thing with Cotto. And you can bet your bottom $$$ that if Cotto loses,he'll say he's never fighting him. If he wants to fight again,it HAS to be against Cotto because he is the biggest draw left for Mayweather.
It's unfortunate but there are FEW fighters that are willing to fight for the fights sake or for legacy sake. Few fighters willing to take ALL challenges. Margarito(who'll fight anyone and is the ONLY fighter to fight young guns like Williams and Clottey who NO-ONE else even mentions), Williams(who fought Margarito when no-on else wanted to and will fight anyone), Katsidis(took an 80-20 split just so he could fight for a title), these are examples of which there are few left now.
You said it best, the mark of a great fighter is who he fights. A fighter can still make $$$ fighting the best. Sugar Ray comes to mind. There are LOTs of other fighters too.Unfortunately, fighters of today don't seem to see it that way,Mayweather being the prime example.
Re: Am I On The Wrong Site??
u might be on the right site son
Re: Am I On The Wrong Site??
It's easy to say "forget the business side, this is the fight game," but that's ignoring reality. The fact is... this IS a business, and therefore you have to consider the financial side when you're talking about whether or not fights are going to happen. Whether you like it or not, that's the way it is.
ALL the top fighters factor in money when they decide who they're going to fight. Not just Floyd Mayweather. Miguel Cotto does too. If anyone here thinks Bob Arum and Miguel Cotto would take a fight that makes no business sense, then you're nuts.

Whilst I agree with that, don't you think the Mosley fight was taking big risks? They are also considering a Clottey fight, again,I personally think that's a huge risk!

Boogie Down, more and more boxers are concerned about the business side of things. It's understandable that you want to be financially secure for the rest of your life, but I lament the loss of that competitiveness, that desire to be the best, that desire to challenge a good fighter for sports' sake. When I was growing up, if you heard about a local tough who could brawl, you took the challenge. Boxing was like this for a long time too-fighting for the glory as opposed to the money. In the end, the fan gets shafted and the primary shafter today is none other than Oscar de la Hoya. Though Felix Trinidad was my favorite fighter of all time, and though it seems like he keeps coming back for money, I always know that a Tito fight will have fireworks. I can't say that for many others who fight for the money.

Cmon Bro,I cant stomach Mayweather in the slightest, and Ive certainly got some memorabilia that would appreciate in value considerably by a Cotto win,but credit where its due.Floyd just stood up to one of the better inside fighters at the weight, and demolished him on the inside
And thats not Floyd's strong suit
