Hitting the bag..

the only time i hurt my hands when hitting the bag is if i hit her on top of the head without gloves.

i've found that the reason i was getting a sore wrist after hitting the bag was because i wasn't following right through when i was striking. i seemed to be pulling back which also explains the loss of power.

That could be a habit from using the freestanding bag.
You can't follow through on the freestanding bag as it's not very forgiving and doesn't react naturally, so it hurts to follow through.

Then on the swinging bag, you don't follow through and it hurts. Practice i guess.

Pain is a signal from your body to your brain indicating that an activity is harnful to the muscle/bone/tissue. By ignoring these signs You can potentially do more damage to yourself than any opponent you meet in Boxing.
