Re: MAYWEATHER-HATTON DOES 850,000 PPV BUYS IN THE U.S.
I think Cotto Vs Mayweather can do over a mil
I think that Williams Vs Mayweather would do around 400,000
Re: MAYWEATHER-HATTON DOES 850,000 PPV BUYS IN THE U.S.
Thing is Cotto v Mayweather is the one all the boxing fans want to see but as far as the general public are concerened............
Put it this way, it wont even make PPV over this side of the Atlantic. Not sure wheter to be happy about that or not ???

not really. a huge contributing factor was
Hatton's popularity, 24/7 show, the whole USA vs UK angle, plus the whole 2 undefeatead fighters in their prime angle. I am shocked it did so low, I thought it was going to smash the Delahoya-trinidad record of 1.4 million buys because the build up was so good plus the 24/7 show which averaged of 4.5 million viewers.
99% of the people in the US had absolutely no clue who Ricky Hatton was before this fight. In the US, Mayweather's presence was a much bigger factor in the PPV numbers than Hatton's. People in the US knew Mayweather from the Oscar fight and from Dancing with the Stars.
are you telling me that there is absolutely no british people living in the States? also I said the numbers were a combination of Hatton's popularity, 24/7 show averaging 4.5 million viewers, the whole USA vs UK angle, plus the whole 2 undefeatead fighters in their prime angle.

So, you are essentially saying that Floyd's appeal/popularity/notoriety had no impact on the big nums. Interesting.
Re: MAYWEATHER-HATTON DOES 850,000 PPV BUYS IN THE U.S.
Just curious, how many PPV buys did Baldomir/Mayweather bring in?

I believe it was around 375,000-400,000.

Thanks Sweet Pea; I was always curious about what kind of #'s that brought in.

Are you really suggesting that British ex-pats had more than a negligible impact on the PPV numbers? Give me a break. You need to take "Hatton's popularity" out of the equation when you talk about U.S. PPV buys. Mayweather vs. anyone would do better U.S. PPV numbers than Hatton vs. that same fighter. You can't possibly believe otherwise. You better believe Hatton vs. ODH wouldn't do 2.4 mill.

Mayweather's PPV numbers weakest of three cardsBy Dan Rafael
ESPN.com
Floyd Mayweather's shutout victory against Carlos Baldomir to win the world welterweight championship last Saturday night in Las Vegas generated 325,000 pay-per-view buys, HBO announced Friday.
The fight, which cost $49.95, generated $16.3 million in television revenue, but was the weakest performing of the three cards Mayweather has headlined on HBO PPV.
Both of his previous HBO PPV fights, which cost $44.95, did more business.
Mayweather's lopsided decision win against Zab Judah in April generated 374,000 buys and $16.8 million in revenue and his June 2005 destruction of Arturo Gatti to win a junior welterweight belt generated 365,000 buys and $16.5 million.
Mayweather's weak number probably won't bolster his case during ongoing negotiations to fight junior middleweight titlist Oscar De La Hoya in May. De La Hoya, who has given Mayweather a Monday night deadline to accept an offer, has been a box office star for years.
He generated a surprisingly high 925,000 buys when he beat Ricardo Mayorga in May.
