Re: Prime Bruno - Prime Bowe
Prime vs. prime, I think Bowe wins easily. Bruno was nothing more than a second-rate heavyweight. Bowe in his (brief) prime was an extremely skilled boxer with power.
Re: Prime Bruno - Prime Bowe
Am i right in thinking Bowe never called Tyson out so perhaps Bowe did'nt like fighting punchers

I can agree with that.
Re: Prime Bruno - Prime Bowe
Is this a serious question?
Frank Bruno was a big, well conditioned guy who always gave of his best in the ring. He was always found wanting against true world class opponents. He was really dedicated, could punch like a mule, was always fit and never could say that he lost against someone he could truly beat. He won a 'world title' in the end.
Riddick Bowe was an even bigger, poorly conditioned guy, who never really realised his true potential inthe ring. When he was against worls class opposition his class and talent shone out but he was poor against guys he knew he could beat. He was fragile in his mind and was never as fit as he could have been in his career. He was a hugely skilled boxer with a good heart and courage. He should have won the fights he lost. He won world titles but could have won and retained ALL of them.
Bruno is one of the great overachievers in heavyweight time, Bowe is one of the great underachievers.
....... but Bowe beats Bruno 100 times out of a 100.
Bruno starts off neat and tidy, good solid jab and heavy right cross to follow. He lands some bombs, but Bowe rides the shots, grabs when he has too, spoils when he has to and is always busy enought to stay in it. His size stops Bruno from bullying him. The fight is roughly even for 4 rounds with Bruno slightly ahead on the scorecards. By the 5th, Bowe starts to work him out, times the jab and moves under the right cross where his infighting starts to tire Bruno out.
By the 7th, Big Riddick is bossing it and the end comes suddenly, via a sneaky Bowe uppercut that Bruno never sees, followed by a barrage from the more naturally talented, bigger fighter. Bruno loses by TKO.

I stopped reading when you called Bruno well conditioned. The man was built. I'll give him that. But well conditioned? I don't think so. The guy couldn't go 6 rounds with out his mouth hanging open and him gasping for air. Look at his fight with Oliver Mccall. I thought Bruno was going to die from exhaustion. The man had no stamina. So how is that being well conditioned?

:coolclick: no doubt bout it!! agree with everything you said. I remember his best performance against Evander and that really was something special by any standard. No heavyweight in history would of enjoyed fighting Bowe that night.
Re: Prime Bruno - Prime Bowe
I think Bowie can make it to the HOF but he is not a alltime great though i think the peopel get the HOF confused with ATG not the same thing.

.... too many syllables for you, VD? ;)
Re: Prime Bruno - Prime Bowe
Bruno was just too 'muscled' to be a boxer, his musles craved so much oxygen that he was drained after 6 -8 rounds. I've always said his chin was pretty good, he never got knocked down by big single shots, he just had no defence after being caught and just stood there taking a beating. He did have a helluva shot on him, but in terms of real world class, unfortuantley not - and a well prepared Bowe would stop him almost certainly

If you ask most people what Bruno's biggest problem was, they would say 'stamina' based on his phsique, there are exception to every rule, but somebody built like Bruno is always going to have problems with stamina at that level of endurance

It is that but it was also, nervous energy and not having confidence. These two combined aren't good combo to have going into a fight.
