Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Hopkins isn't a racist. The fact that Joe is a white boy proves that.
Problem is America is the most racist country in the world and only recently gave blacks rights. So it's expected. Joe won't take it to heart or even care he is way bigger than that.
Fact that Joe is Italian says something as well. Rocky Marciano the undefeated.
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Dropping bombs on the Americans there wasp.
I wasn't offended at all by B-Hops comments..cos there BS.
But look when Alan Minter tried that one with Hagler. He got so much stick,it is a ridiculous double standard.

:coolclick: Well said, I thought I was the only person on here capable of seeing this.
To use an analogy, it's like a school with a huge bullying problem, with certain big kids beating the crap out of little kids, taking their lunch money and stealing their phones and ipods.
Then a huge crackdown and zero tolerance is implemented to ban the bullying and everyone is told to behave or else.
If the former bullies were then in those circumstances to say something nasty to the white kids it would very likely be seen as threatening in the light of past bullying behaviour.
If the bullied kids were caught making comments however, although they would probably be told to behave for the sake of peace and harmony their comments would not be considered bullying but rather a result of the bitter aftertaste of having being bullied.
Unfortunately most people on here (and in the world) seem to think that since we have 'in theory' created equal rights and anti racist laws now that the sins of the past should be completely erased and forgotten and that any past grievances should be 'gotten over'.
They think that now we are all the same and equal with the slate wiped clean and so any language or negative behaviour used by either side should be viewed through the same distorted lens.
Unfortunately in real life history cannot just be forgotten or erased and resentment and bad feeling between races will likely linger for hundreds of years.
I know Lyle will be all over this and tell us how HE has never been racist but that is completely against the point.
The history of the world and the human races does not begin and end with each new generation it is an ongoing continium.
For those who believe in religion were are born into sin as a result of our ancestors transgression against God, for those who believe in evolution we are the evolutionary result of all the mutations that have gone on before us, in both scenario's our ancestors past directly affects us and so it is with race relations.
I am greatly appreciative of the fact that at least one other person on the board can see that. Oh and Trainer Monkey too. :)
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Dont really agree with that Bilbo. The way you explain seems to make sense, but race relations are a bit more complicated than the bully on the play ground let's be fair.
By the logic of that story it's ok for black people to be racist to white people?
So it's ok for a black person to come up to me and call me a white fuck because my ancestors may have enslaved his ancestors.
I can see where your coming from though dont get me wrong.
But Racism cannot be justified.Regardless.
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
I think what he's saying Tins06 is that's just the way it is.
I guess some people may see it one way and others another. I see nothing wrong with it, just a bit of fun.
You could even say Hopkins lost that conversation as soon as he brought insults into it.
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
B-Hop is my favorite boxer! Comin from North Philadelphia(98% black )I can see WHERE those comments came from, but there is absolutely no reason in the world those words should've left his mouth! I feel ashamed by his actions and hope he will find it necissary to offer an open, from the heart aplology to Joe and all his fans! Bernard KNOWS Joe is capable of beating him, thats what makes a BIG fight, when BOTH guys are capable of victory! Joe is probably the SMARTEST boxer Bernard has ever faced since the Roy Jones fight! He knows Joe is GOOD! Bernard let the situation get the best of him and that shows he has some worries! With all that said I'm STILL a BIG B-Hop fan and I still beleive he beats Calzaghe easily, even he doesn't beleive it himself! Calzaghe can only win by points, so a points loss to Joe Calzaghe won't stop B-Hop from goin into the Hall of Fame! Same thing for Joe, even if he loses to an OLDER B-Hop he'll still get in also!
Again, that was a very disrespectful, ignorant, comment made by B-Hop! He's a role model in our city, especially the inner city, so I feel as though he should be held accountable for his rascist remarks!
ALL JOKES ASIDE! JOE CALZAGHE IS NOT YA AVERAGE WHITE BOY!!!!
THIS DUDE CAN FUCKIN FIGHT!! REAL TALK!!!!
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Hopkins is athletically gifted and in tremendous shape for 40+ but a deteoriated fighter from a pure skill standpoint, he has supplemented his waning skills by using questionable tactics and is nothing more than a hold and hit fighter who resembles MMA clinches more than boxing matches.
He should have retired after the 2nd Taylor loss. Then he moved up to 175 to fight Tarver and really started to employ the over excessive hitting and holding tactics.. No one really cared because it was Tarver and everyone hates the guys guts..The Winky fight really had me hate Hopkins and his boring 5 punches a round and only 2 are legal. He uses these tactics now since his skills arent there anymore...
I really hope Calzaghe takes him to the woodshed and beats the ignorance out of him  ::**

The thing is nowadays people have reduced racism to calling people names as if that's the ultimate form of racism.
It isn't, not even close.
How does for example B Hop saying he will not lose to a white guy compare to say the complete disenfranchment of the majority of black and other ethnic minorities in being able to vote in the US elections in New York and other cities and states?
How does his name calling compare with the fact in the US the average black man only earns 67% of what the average white man earns?
Unemployment rates are much higher for blacks than for whites. The chances of a black person going to university are much less than a white person.
There are more blacks today under the poverty line in the US than white people.
So clearly there is still 'real' racism going on, but it's unreported because it's done under the veil of political correctness.
Saying you will never lose to a white man isn't racist as there is no offense actually being committed.
It's like equating a man saying he would love to smash his bosses' face to an actual murderer who killed his boss. ::**
All this emphasis on name calling being racism just goes to obscure the real racism that takes place all the time.

Your going completely off the subject, your 2nd comment has nothing to do with Hopkins implying White people are inferior.
How does his name calling compare with the fact in the US the average black man only earns 67% of what the average white man earns?
What has that got to with Hopkins implying what he did ?? if all people thought that way the whole world would be racist.
And all your other comments are completely off the subject, when i was a young i had people call me racist names and im white. So does that mean i have to become a racist myself ?? there is a lot racism everywhere not just for black people. But that doesn't mean you can use that as an excuse to come out with racist comments yourself sorry but i totally disagree.

It's purely hype to get a big fight made and for the fans to be interested in it Ice. If he would have said he'd never lose to a Welsh boyo with cowardly Italian blood in him nobody would have said he was racist because he would have been talking about nationality.
If he would have said. 'Joe you're a kunt and I never lose to kunt's', again nobody would have said he was racist.
But because he mentioned a colour certain people get all up in arms and shout 'Racist!' ::**
It had nothing to do with racism whatsoever, he's just trying to get a mental edge over Calzaghe and also trying to hype up a potential fight.
He's a salesman and a predator who got into 'fighting' character.
I personally think he did exactly the right thing because even now people are still talking about it ;)

There are other ways to hype a fight than racist comments, im sorry Bilbo if i sound like im ranting on. But i totally disagree a lot of people go through some sort of racism in there life. But that doesn't mean you have to become a racist yourself thats a poor excuse IMO. because it doesn't matter what color you are, everyone is a human being everyone is an individual, like i said when i was really young i had people call me racist comments, but i realize thats only certain individual's, it doesn't mean i have to hate a whole race because of it.

Yes he mentioned a skin color and implied that white people are inferior, of course that is a racist. Because he is disrespecting a whole race.
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
I suppose this argument has far far to many opinions.......But if we get back to thread topic.. You would think a man whose words will travel across the globe..would try his hardest not to insult a fair percentage of its population.

That quote of yours pretty much sums up the lunacy of the argument in my mind. He could have made a personal attack on Calzaghe and you would have been fine with it but because he made a vague generalistation applied to nobody in particular you take issue with it.
It also highlights another point. You're not against name calling or abuse just ones that have a racist connotation.
Well if it wasn't for the past actions of white men there wouldn't be any 'racism' to get up in arms about and remark about colour would mean no more than a remark about height, weight, physical appearance, educational background etc.
We only brought in anti racism laws and etiquette to protect blacks and other minorities from racist abuse from whites I just find it completely absurd that when a black man makes a remark about whites it's seen as the same kind of racism as enslaving a population, torturing, killing, raping, subjecating and exploiting them.
Remember the racist laws wern't to protect people from 'name calling' it was from real racist actions like those above.
Hopkins just made a boastful remark, their was no element of racism in it.
You seem incapable of seperating a racist action from a bitchy remark.
If someone set fire to your car it would be an act of vandalism.
If someone said 'my car is faster than yours' what does even have to do with vandalism?
Likewise if someone abuses, intimidates, threatens, exploits a person because of their colour its racism.
If two fighters who are both equal to each other engage in a slanging match to try and hype a fight and get a mental edge over their opponent what has race even got to do with it?
You're getting all hung up because he mentioned a colour but it's completely out of context with real racism.
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
I actually wanted Hopkins to win being from Philly and all.But with that whole white boy thing.F**K him racist piece of s**t.Hope Calzaghe as he says slaps the hell out of him.
