No matter what the public will not be happy....and what is stopping guys from having their team just voting voting voting? building up their guys chances? I understand your point but there are too many ways to manipulate things
It's a flawed theory no doubt, but it's an idea. I feel that to move in to the next era boxing needs some new ideas to progress.
What they need to do and I have always said this is to make sure that
1. only fighters in the top 10 receive title shots...the hell with the gimmes...too many guys out there worked to hard to be ranked just to have a guy ranked 25th get a shot while they stay in the top 10 and sometimes never getting a shot
2. Develope a points system for wins..(though this is somewhat in place)....
I guess i should have clarified that i thought that the public should have their say on opposition but only on opponents within the top ten.
As for the points system ???
A point system is a great way to make rankings....why should a guy be ranked and get a title shot for fighting guys not ranked in the top 40 and beating guys with records like 12-9 or 6-17...EG- Thomas Daamguard before Gatti disposed of him...and other guys are fighting the best in the division...yet they get shots for quanity of opp not quality....Recieve a certain amount of points depending on where the guy was ranked you defeated...that will decide your top 10...make it so the champion only defends against top 10 ranked opponents

Well Cuchulian It may not be a great idea but hey can it get any worse off then it is now?....I mean there was a time when champions only defended against the top 10 ranked fighters....IMO it makes for better fights because they are fighting guys able to make it into that class eliminating some mis matches..plus no one gets screwed for all their hard work to become ranked....not to mention the fact we all know that there are guys out there that deserve to be ranked higher but due to either politics or their management team not having enough pull they seem to get over looked
Re: The WBC asks for your opinion
Over the next few years I feel there may well be a revolution in terms of the sanctioning bodies.
Re: The WBC asks for your opinion
My crazy idea is that there should be one grand title per division and every four years the top 8 guys in the division (all the world title holders plus the top contenders) should have a tournament. No title on the line just the grand title. Winner will be THE champion for the next 4 years. Do it again every 4 years.
What do you think?

Weren't they proposing some sort of similar tournament?
Remember Lennox Lewis was the spokes person???

Hmm, I don't know. I think it would be great though. Just think how big of an even that year would be for boxing with all the different weight classes establishing who is the top dog every four years. It would be like the World Cup of Boxing. It might even give the sport some much needed world wide attention. Gives the fans something to focus on.

Here it is. It was a tournament proposed last year or the year before.
Fights were to be 4 x 3 minute rounds, ruled on aggression effective defence and style. It was for heavies and the idea was to create an exciting heavyweight tournament. I know a lot of guys signed up, including Chris Byrd, O'Neil Bell and Sam Peter. It never happened because no boxing authority would help.

Sounds like BoxRec... Know a few promoters who use it as a guide to find match ups.
Re: The WBC asks for your opinion
Boxrec is quite commonly used, but i feel the administrators are aware of that fact and as a result the attempt to be cutting edge with the latest news and end up chopping and changing a lot.

LOL, That would be something, but that was not exactly what I meant. I don't mean having them fight in one night. I meant throughout the year. A year long event. 8 fighters from each wheich class will have 3 fights that year to determine who is the grand champion of each weight.
Re: The WBC asks for your opinion
Understood. Anything would be an improvement though!
