Sugar_Shaw I think I just remembered a more shocking one.

Ivan Calderon who was the Minimumweight WBO Champ that's the 105 lb. div. beat the former WBO Light Welterweight champ & current WBA Welterweight champ that's the 140 & 147 lb. div. Miguel Cotto.

Early in Cottos amateur career.

Heres a quote from Cotto.


"I fought with Ivan Calderon when I was amateur, 100 pounds. He beat me three to two. After that, we make the team of Puerto Rico to represent Puerto Rico in international competition. We were both in the Olympics in 2000. He's still at 105 pounds. He's, if not the best, one of my best friends."...

And in the same Olympics (2000) he beat Calvin Brock as well. Wouldn't expect him to do that today either. (Nor would I expect Audley Harrison to come out on top after a tournament involving these guys :))

I was looking through some results from the Olympics at one point, and found some good matchups. I've only included the ones where both boxers are fairly high profile, and where the result might be different today (i.e. no Taylor beating Sturm for example):

Atlanta 1996:
- Omar Narvaez beat Joan Guzman
- Oktay Urkal beat David Diaz
- Stipe Drews beat Timur Ibragimov
- Luan Krasniqi beat Ruslan Chagaev
- Paea Wolfgramm (of Tonga) beat Sergei Liakhovich

Sydney 2000:
- Wladimir Sidorenko beat Daniel Ponce De Leon

Most of the fighters who beat anyone good were older and had more experience at the time. I don't care what people did in the amateurs, however reviewing amateur bouts, is fun to see how your fighter has evolved in so many ways. Many fighters who won the gold are no where to be seen after or get mopped in the pros and quit.

I know Amir Kahn stopped Victor Ortiz in the 2nd round to win gold at junior olympics

Audley Harrison beat Sam Peter

I heard Jeff Lacy bottled a fight with Carl Froch because Froch brutally destroyed Lacy's team mate. Lacy was supposed to fight him next in a UK vs US meet and he pulled out after he saw what Froch did to his mate.
