As strange as it sounds the Wright-Trinidad fight is what got me into boxing, the technical brilliance Winky showed in that fight was awsome. He's been my favorite fighter since that point. There's no doubt in my mind that fighting B-Hop at 170 was a big mistake though, even if he had won the find he was still going to have to cut weight for his next fight and at his age that could have serious consequences.

Very. VERY difficult to fight.
One of my favs!
No Winky did not beat Taylor it was a draw, very close fight that could of gone either way. And Winky is nowhere near being one of the best P4P fighters at the moment, he isn't even top 10 P4P fighter.
I would still have him in the top 10 P4P list, he only lost (competitively) to B-Hop, who is easily in the top 5 P4P. But those are so subjective and I'm obviously biased. I also felt he was robbed against Taylor (again, I'm biased), but I couldn't believe he didn't press the action in the last round. I still shake my head about that.
1 Floyd Mayweather
2 Manny Pacquiao
3 Joe Calzaghe
4 Bernard Hopkins
5 Juan Manuel Marquez
6 Miguel Cotto
7 Israel Vasquez
8 Rafael Marquez
9 Ivan Calderon
10 Juan Diaz
11 Kelly Pavlik
12 Winky Wright
13 Ricky Hatton
14 Joan Guzman
15 Jermain Taylor
16 Shane Mosley
17 Mikkel Kessler
18 Christian Mijares
19 Wladimir Klitschko
20 Chris John
Thats how i roughly see the top 20.
It's hard to argue with most of that list, like I said they're very subjective. I don't agree with having Juan Diaz ranked that high though, I'd have Pavlik and Wright ahead of him for sure, and maybe a few others as well.
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Good record but it is second to someone
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Winky should have won the Taylor fight. Even though he boxed the 12rd he still won the round. This whole thing about him giving away the 12rd is the dumbest shit ever. Winky won the 12rd by boxing.

I feel he won the 12th as well, but he sure didn't do it in convincing fashion, which is why Taylor got the round on two of the scorecards.

4. Soliman---A solid 'give me' fight.
5. trinidad---one of the most one sided tactical displays ever.
6. Mosely
7. Mosely------enough said.
In addition he fought Vargas.
McKart x3
Frazier
Rob Frazier
Almost all of his fights have been in someone else's back yard. I know everyone thinks he sucks but with a record like that how are you going to not pay respect?
Can't say I have ever heard any fight fan worth his weight say Winky Sucks....It is impossible to say such a thing about a man who is perhaps the best defensive fighter's out there in the last 25 yrs....I have heard people say Wright is boring but never sucks
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
CC Booze Not to mention fighting Harry Simon in his hometown, Im not sure but I think Winky claims that was a bs loss. Yeah I dont think anyone can question his willingness to fight , its usually people avoiding him because he causes problems for any fighter, and its hard to look good against him.
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Well that is a good list but there are better ones and Winky is ok i guess.

I would like to see your list of a fighter with better consecutive opposition from a recent (era) fighters.
Manny has a very solid recent resume I believe.
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Also Mayorga has had pretty tought opposition in his recent fights IMO as far as names go.

Oscar's last 7 is also pretty good:
Vargas, Campas, Mosley, Sturm, B-Hop, Mayorga, PBF.
Also Hopkins last 6 + Calzaghe is:
ODLH, Eastman, Taylor, Taylor, Tarver, Winky and Calzaghe.
Both decent resumes to me, and arguably up there with Winky's. Obviously Oscar's is better if you include his entire career.
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Taylor has an underated record.
hopkins twice, ouma, winky, spinks, pavlik. thats not a bad line up. not great but good. would be better if he hadn't got Koed by pavlik.
Winky record remindes me of DLH record he's fought good fighters in some big fights but he has failed to that little extra to get the Win in certain situations. like his fights with Hopkins taylor and vargas.
now if were just talking records and not wins then of the top of my DLH record is the best. PBF, Mosely twice, Vargas, Mayorga, Tito, Whitiker, Hopkins, quartey

Here's some names on Tito's reccord
Campas, Carr, Camacho, Whitaker, DLH, Reid, Vargas, Joppy, Hopkins, Mayorga, Wright, Jones Jr.... Not too bad either.
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Booze,I agree with your analysis,he's fought some top fighters but I think he has a dam boring style. And my main criticism of him is not his resume but these poins:
1.)after every loss, his fans cry robbery as does he.Name me one robbery of his.All his losses have been close fights.
2.)his ranting and raving about not wanting to fight guys like AA,Kess, turning down a career high payday v JT in a rematch and then continuing ranting and raving.
3.) He thinks he's some sort of draw.
I have no doubt he is a tough fighter, skilled but I don't find his style enjoyable and he's nowhere near the draw he think he is.
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
I think Winky is a very very good fighter indeed .... one who has learnt the trade through and through and will have forgotten more than many fighters ever learn.
I sort of rate him (stylistically and reputationally) with some of the great 'blue-collar' type guys we have always had through the ages, people like:
Buddy McGirt, Virgil Hill, Michael Watson etc
Re: Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.
Considering he should be 54(25)-2(0) IMO its quite amazing how good he has been considering his competition. I remember Atlas thinking that MOsley would be just too good for Winky, how wrong he was. Winky has a great jab, even better defense, and a really good straight left hand. He can fight anywhere in the ring, he backs up the bigger guys, he has a cast-iron chin, and back in the day he had a lot of speed.
As for you el Game
how was Taylor-Winky a close fight? Can you tell me the punch stat numbers again? How was Winky-Vargas a close fight, he way outlanded Vargas in almost every round not to mention made Vargas look like a fool offensively. Against Harry Simon he wasn't robbed, but he clearly won the fight, sure it was the closest fight by far, but he didn't deserve to lose that fight.
