Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
Tony made two big mistakes. He didn't let his hands go enough, and he stayed right in from of Williams and used his hands to pick off punches. Williams was getting credit for a lot of shots that Tony was blocking or parrying with his gloves, and the problem was made worse because he didn't throw back. Of course throwing back is harder when you block or parry instead of weave and slip. Quintana slipped and used angles, and Paul wasn't able to get off combos at a moving target. He slowed down Williams output with movement and accurate counterpunching. Quintana fought a great fight and exposed plenty of flaws in Paul's game, including his lack of real power. Tony played right into Williams strengths, and when you look closely at Tony's record, he has trouble with tall southpaws.
I would like to see Quintana expose Berto next :)

As for Lederman,it's time for him to retire.More often than not,his scorecard is so far off,it's embaressing for a guy who was a judge for what,20 years? It was embaressing here again. He clearly calls rounds for the agressor, regardless of what they are landing. He's a maniac.
I think Quintana's lateral movement and holding Williams were very very effective tactics.Williams is still dangerous but El Indio is a new big player at the weight class.Wel done.
:-\ Cmon friend, you are asking me round by round or what? dont tell me about round by round ;D because we know that P.W. lose clearly the fight , no matter or what happened in 12th round El indio won the fight, we cant put excuses either Williams, if El indio give a fight to P.W. he have to admit that he lose, the fight was clearly......

Actually it's more a size thing for Gamo, his major turn on is tiny men, smaller the better.
After a while you get to recognise recurring patterns in Gamo's postings.
First he will make an angry, extrememly opinionated posting lambasting someone or something, then later he will make another posting completely recanting his last post and making a total U Turn.
His other posts fall into the 'man I'm soooo excited I'm wanking as I type this' kind ;)

Tall Paul must take that rematch. Quintana clearly won that fight. Fight 2 will be totally different. Aint no crime in losing its all about how u come back. The Boogie Man aint dead yet. No time for crying or excuses just revenge.
Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
I thought it was a pretty big upset. That being said, it was also one of the sloppiest fights I've seen in a while. I give much credit to Quintana for pulling it out, but honestly, I wasn't overly impressed with either guy last night. Let's be real, that was NOT the same Paul Williams who beat Margarito.I don't want to take away Quintana's credit, but I think Paul had a very off night. I think this also proves the dictum that styles make fights. Quintana had the style to beat Williams, but I honestly can't see him beating many of the top welters. I think Margarito would scrape Quintana, and unlike some of you I think Berto would have a good shot against him as well.

It makes me wonder what will happen on the 16th ;D. I was shocked Williams lost and i still am. Perhaps he should have concentrated on Quintana instead of the other welterweights "ducking him".
Full props to Quintana for coming back strong after the brutal loss to Cotto.
Pavlik at least seems to have his head on straight, and win or loss this coming Saturday there will be no excuses.
Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
Its not even that big of an upset, quintana has one lost only against cotto. Pw has one good win thats over tony. to me it was 55-45 a slight lean towards pw. I doubt it'll be upset of the year or anything like that, it was just two good fighters, the slight underdog pulling it out.
so calm down guys, its not that big of a deal
Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
Quintana fought a smart fight - ducking below Williams jab and long arms and catching Williams with the hooks. Williams proved he's got a decent chin but was far too easy too nail especially considering his height and reach advantages.
It was an upset and Williams gave himself too much to do after the 1st few rounds.
Looked like a simple case of motivation and preparation. Quintana went in with a clear gameplan and executed it from the start while Williams took a fair few rounds to get going and never really had an answer to Quintana's style which would suggest that maybe the Williams camp were expecting an easier night than they got.
Good win for Carlos - he thoroughly deserved the win.

Dam that bum Margarito!!!;D;D
Hey watch the Margarito hater comments:mad:
I don't think this was much of an upset IMO....Quintana is a good fighter who beat another good fighter that was a little too full of himself
Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
I was surprised, real surprised, not that I thought Quintana was a bad fighter, I just didn't see the styles working out for him. Was wrong.
The more I see Williams, the less I want to watch him. I usually like busy fighters but Williams bores me.

Now Tony is going to have to fight the PR champions! Margarito, the last Mexican standing v:
Cintron
Cotto
Quintana(because he'll want that WBO title back)
I can't wait!:o:o:o
Gamo man...I like Tony and the only one of those 3 he beats is Cintron. Just imagine how much worse it would have been for Paul had he not gotten the extra long leash from the ref had he not been champ. He was holding and hitting all night and Carlos got many more warnings for just trying to defend himself from it.
I can honestly say that Quintana was my pick for this fight. I said in a thread way back that he has the skill and potential to clean out a division. That was around the time he was gonna fight Cotto and I had that fight as a toss up.
Quintana is here to stay and I'm glad he got the opportunity to show that he is the real deal. He fought the wrong fight against Cotto and paid dearly for it.
Although I would have Cotto as slight favorite if they fight again, I would not be overly surprised if Quntana can win.
Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
I consider an upset one where you have a one percent chance and then you win. I picked Williams (because of the reach and the activity level), but I knew Quintana had boxing ability and could do enough to defeat Williams. I would say I am more suprised that Williams did so terribly as opposed to surprised Quintana won.

But Paul had a bad night because styles do make fights. For example, Williams throws 800 punches per round or so usually, but Quintana moved so much that Paul was unable to throw as many as usual. Margarito was perfect for Williams because he was in Paul's range all night and couple that with a good chin and Williams looks like a world beater. When Cotto fought Quintana, Cotto, the expert, relentless pressure fighter, was able to assert himself. Williams is not that kind of pressure fighter (lets not confuse pressure with workrate, not that you are) Cotto is. Margarito will give Quintana problems because of his power and pressure, but Tony throws many wide punches and I think Quintana's movement, counterpunching ability, and clinching abilities will allow him to compete more than you give him credit.
Re: Biggest upset of the year?Post your thoughts on pW v Quintana here
Not surprised at all. Another loss would of pretty much finished Quintana as a contender. So I knew he was going to come out strong and with his best effort. And he did.

And remember Cotto's incredible ability to cut the ring.
