He's a nice, down to earth guy. I like him. But don't act like he hasnt been favored for one reason or another. He's gotten further in his career because of his looks then anything he's done in the ring and that's a fact.
Well he fights in New York a city with big Irish roots and his style is pleasing to watch. So he has a pleasing style for the fight fans that like brutal fights and he has a large forum in which he can showcase his talents or lack of talents.
Any other ethnic group would support him if he was of a different ethnicity...New York is a melting pot.
And he's a fun fighter to watch....who cares if he's Irish.

When you don't know who is fighting and you're just the average guy, you might be inclined to "cheer for the ____ guy" because you are ____ and you want to have some pride in your ethnicity, race, country, religion, or whatever.
So it's probably just dumb luck that John Duddy became so popular and it's his ability to draw crowds and keep winning that has moved him up the rankings

I'm 38 and I come from Sunderland, England. I'm pasty white due to the hours I work and I narrowly avoided being ginger, the ginger gene being rampant in my family. When I was growing up Kirkland laing was my favourite fighter. There was no intention to be disrespectful to either Mexican or Irish people.
