If he's a decent sort and not acting like a jerk this would/could/should be arranged before hand. If he's looking for someone to beat up on I wouldn't volunteer to be someones ego boost.

We're all been in with people better and worse than ourselves, and some go out to prove a point (I've either toughed it out, changed tactics or if they're an idiot backpeddeld and asked a question while sparring so they remember they're sparring!! never asked them to back off though, kept it technical)

i was going to say that but didn't want to sound like a pussy.... you could just agree on things before the bell rings. when i spar with a guy for the first time I say straight up, "listen we're not in here to kill each other, but to HELP each other." usually you just go a little harder each round unti you get know each other. that's what i would do. just get it straight before hand.

All went well.

It seems we're of a similar mind set, the idea was to learn and polish, but we both liked it a little hardcore too.
