If/when Cotto beats Gomez then Margarito/Cintron he will be the big attraction that Mayweather seeks. Until then, he's not much more of a threat that Paul Williams was a short while back............... or even Margarito was a long while back, and he would bring about the same amount of money that Margarito/Williams would have brought before they got beat. Look at the big picture.
Some people are hella ignorant when it comes to realizing this. Get over it. Bob Arum said that Cotto is tied up for the rest of the year in an interview on boxingtalk.com a short while back while Mayweather is fighting a fight as big as Cotto could ever dream of.
Mayweather is not fighting the fights that the hardcore boxing fans want, he is fighting the fights that ALMOST EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD wants.
As for Cotto?.................... What hardcore boxing fan wants to see Miguel Cotto vs. Alfonso Gomez?? Let alone the non-hard core boxing fans.
Mayweather WILL fight Cotto assuming that Cotto beats Alfonso Gomez:rolleyes: and the winner of Margarito vs. Cintron. If he doesn't, only then could people have a somewhat intelligent argument by saying that "Mayweather is ducking Cotto." In the meantime...... just watch your boy Cotto fight the other top welterweights like Alfonso Gomez and Margarito and Kermit Cintron
Just one question, why does Cotto have to fight the winner of Margarito - Cintron? Certainly he's done enough to not have to beat them. If he were to beat Margarito or Cintron, that would probably be his 4th best win as a professional, no real need for that.
I truly believe that Mayweather will end up fighting Cotto but last night on FNF was the first time I've heard Mayweather sound like a Mayweather. Like Uncle Rog or his dad. Most of the stuff he said didn't make sense, he kept throwing these ridiculous claims out ($170 million this year :lolhaha: ) and was pretty much shameless.
Still, I think he'll end up fighting Cotto.
Re: Mayweather on FNF says Cotto basiclly isnt worthy. Sounds like a duck to me.
These “Floyd is ducking Cotto” threads are starting to get old. Fact of the matter is, we’re all trying to predict the future, without letting things pan out by themselves. But let me be as objective as possible while discussing some of the things being thrown around the forum:
1. Cotto fighting Gomez
Why are people getting on Cotto’s case about this? The guy is hardly a slacker. He keeps busy, and has always taken on tough opponents, rarely taking a breather. After back-to-back stirring wins over the likes of Judah and Mosley, I think he deserves to scale back a bit before his next mega-fight. He is hardly the only fighter to do this. And Gomez may be no “Mosley”, but don’t dis the guy so much. He’s not totally without skills.
2. Floyd fighting De La Hoya again
Only the hardcore Floyd and Oscar fans will claim that the first fight lived up to its hype. And only the most optimistic of those fans will predict that the second fight will be any better. Personally, I was bored to tears by the first fight. Yes, I like boxing, but I prefer a little actual combat thrown in from time to time. Cotto-Mosley had all kinds of boxing, and still turned out to be a classic, fan-pleasing fight. Can’t blame Floyd for going for the $$$, but frankly… I’m not looking forward to it.
3. Floyd saying Cotto’s not worthy
Hey, I’ll reiterate my previous point. Whether he’s ducking or not ducking, the fight can’t happen yet. There are previous engagements. But calling Cotto “not worthy” doesn’t quite cut the mustard. Like it or not, Cotto is a major force (and champion) in the welterweight division. You may or may not be a Cotto fan… but you gotta admit, he’s pretty much reached the “worthy” point by now, don’t you think?
CONCLUSION:
Only one person on the planet knows whether Floyd has plans to duck Cotto or not……. Floyd. Right now, everyone can talk all they want. But we won’t know whether Floyd really has any intentions of facing Cotto until they’re both done with their previous engagements. It’s at THAT point when we’ll finally know the truth. Personally, I hope it happens. It should be a hell of a fight.

Clearly a duck.
Hey southhakron , i think this don't have sense , I'm sure that Cotto will cover and put up PPV at this time , you know why?....because right now is the most fight where the whole world want see my friend , but now if Mayweather expect an a Big Purse that he want and he doesn't get it , that is another thing my friend , so i think that we cant mix the gimnasia with the magnesia..........;D

I posted a link to a Bob Arum interview on boxingtalk.com about a week or two ago where Arum said that Cotto is slated to fight the winner of Margarito vs. Cintron after his fight with Alfonso Gomez. Here's the post in it's entirety in case you missed it http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...ed-haters.html
So while Cotto's schedule is booked for the rest of the year, why shouldn't Mayweather fight Delahoya again? Obviously it made tons of money and a lot of the general population (not boxing fans like us) thought that Delahoya won the fight. Delahoya vs. Mayweather 2 makes sense while Cotto builds up his popularity in his next two fights.

Correction Cotto was trying to land a fight with PBF or Oscar$$$ but Floy decided call it quits (take a break) and then schedule a fight with OScar.
But Cotto booked his schedule to stay busy. and make a plan to fight th rest of the WW, and if by 2009 FLoyd still doesn't fight Cotto hi will be no longer recognaize by the non boxing fans as the best WW because us Boxing fans know Cotto is the Best WW out there right now

How was that a duck? Nobody with half a brain should see that as a duck. He is saying that Cotto needs to become more mainstream for the fight to happen. Mayweather was wrong to say Cotto hasn't proven himself, but he was right that Cotto isn't super huge outside of NY, boxing fans, and PR. IMO he, Cotto, should fight Oscar early 2009 and then that will open up Cotto-mayweather. OR hopefully if Cotto faces Mosley in a rematch, which Shane deserves, or the winner of margarito-Cintron... I think that winner deserves Mayweather. But Cotto just barely beat Mosley, and definitely didn't look very good those last few rounds, Mosley deserves a rematch, and the Cintron-Margarito winner deserves a crack at Cotto before that winner faces Mayweather.

Jon, Los Angeles, CA: Any chance you'll fight Cotto in 2009 before retiring?
Floyd Mayweather: At first he has to get his PPV numbers up and get a fan base.
David(TX): Do you see yourself ever fighting in mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden vs a fighter like Miguel Cotto?
Floyd Mayweather: Who knows what the future might hold, but everyone knows that Las Vegas is the mecca of boxing.
Brandon (Arlington, VA): I will personally buy enough PPVs to make a match with Cotto equal what you sell against De La Hoya
Floyd Mayweather: I just found out who Cotto was today, because he never has called me.
Again, to prove my point, he is only going to fight ODLH & Hatton, and then retire. He will not fight Cotto!
Alex (Grand Forks,ND): What other boxer would you love to pummel into retirement?
Floyd Mayweather: De La Hoya and Hatton. They've basically both retired. What I'm going to do to De La Hoya is what Richard Prior talked about in standup comedy. I already broke De La Hoya once. Now I'll bring him back to life and break him again.
Okay, this doesn't have to with Cotto, but just proves what I have been saying about Fraud not caring about the fans, all he cares about is money. What a greedy bastard. It's nice to know that he even puts money before his own kids, or family.
Dave, Tampa, Fl: is there more to life than money?
Floyd Mayweather: Yeah, more money.
He knows how physical Cotto is and how much bodily damage he can do to his opponent. How can Mayweather say that about the clearly number one guy in his weight class. He is feared. Like Edison Miranda and Kelly Pavlik and Manny is to those guys in that weight class. He is clearly ducking. Im so glad I started this thread. +1 for you and everyone that posted on it. Thanks.

See what you said is exactly what is wrong with the sport. He beat Mosley and everyone else he faced. Mayweather needs to take this fight. Quit giving these boxers like Mayweather these holier than thou personalitys and all that shit and bang it out with the tops in the weight. Hows come Hatton got the shot. Because Hatton is smaller in size and he made fun of Mayweather. Cotto should call Mayweather the coward that he is. Just like Mayweather didn't say shit back when Chuck Liddell said he had a 135 pounder that could wax him in a fight. To me if Mayweather got Duk Kim'ed in the ring I would care less. He is a piece of shit human being and a piece of shit for the sport.

I'm sorry and I don't mean to cause trouble, but what a fucking stupid thing to say. I don't like Mayweather one bit, thought I don't think he's ducking Cotto just yet, but wishing death on someone, anyone, who risks their lives to provide ungreatful fuckwits like yourself with entertainment is a ridiculous thing to do. How do you know Mayweather is a piece of shit human being? Do you know him and interact with him personally? I would guess not. You're clearly stupid enough to buy into the image he is selling and to assume that it is a reflection of his personality and not just an projection of a villian character. Good work and keep up the quality posting.

What an ass you are. Wow. And to think you are a Mancini fan, we see who the shit is. Gave bad rep but come on, that's uncalled for.
Re: Mayweather on FNF says Cotto basiclly isnt worthy. Sounds like a duck to me.
C'mon now people don't buy into this crap...we all know cotto/floyd is the fight we all want, the fans all want but there are still 3 or 4 pepople on this planet somewhere who still could care less and those are the people floyd is holding out for. Floyd fights for money and that's really about it so he is going to try and suck every last penny out of this matchup which everyone knows is eventually going to happen. Floyd isn't ducking anyone, but simply building up this fight till it can't be built up anymore at which time they'll fight he'll beat cotto like everyone else and start all this crap over again with someone new. I almost dread the big circus and false drama that we will be forced to go through till then, cotto is no more a threat to beat floyd than any other of the thirty something guys we've been made to belive can beat floyd. Even by floyd himself at times with all the 24/7 garbage he puts on lately before every fight. Can cotto beat floyd ?? Sure it's possible it's possible for anyone will it happen, i doubt it.
