Re: Handspeed, accuracy and sharpness.
Don't forget the return.
If you throw your punch fast don't leave it hanging out there, the sooner it's pulled back the sooner you can throw it again.
I think this is the book I have ;D that had some good tips in it.
Speed Training: How to Develop Your Maximum Speed for Martial Arts
Don't forget it's not just being able to throw fast punches if you don't train being able to see the openings and it's no good being fast if your accuracy is off.

I guess I am a bit unsure of whether or not I could actually forget what I've learned.
I have read that the only way to get rid of a bad habit is to overlay it with a good one.
I wonder then how long you can sort of just keep 'layering up' new habits in your brain before you're unable to be as consistant as you could if you were actaully able to erase your past patterns and start fresh?!?

My thoughts were more in ... once you've got something down ,you've got it down, no need for more prethought (like a 'wellearned' combo in full automatic. hmm > welllearned well earned ;D
Basics though you sometimes have to unlearn or bin them in order to make room for the new stuff you can now get away with since you've progressed.
But yeah neurons firing down old channels can be habitual I suppose :p.

I think I kinda see what you're geting at. Maybe it's not so much what I was trying to do when I got into that habit. I mean when you first concentrate hard on getting something right you might be tempted to pause afterwards to assess what you've done rather than flow on - maybe that's what the real bad habit is.
If I just accepted that it'll be ok or I can't do it perfectly everytime but just aimed for a good percentage then it'd be less of a liability.
Re: Handspeed, accuracy and sharpness.
Without going into the habit part, there are some things you learn to begin with that you have to let go in order to free up and become your own stylist.
Re: Handspeed, accuracy and sharpness.
easy to increase hand speed. hand speed is the result of the initiation of the movement. not the movement itself. find the ways to work the speed of the intital movement per the stimulus and the rest of the movement will follow.
ask yourself this. what is it that happens first? muscles react how?
