Oasis defined 90s brit pop and without them i truly believe guitar based bands wouldnt exist in this day and age and the whole of europe/australia etc would now be just like america listening to endless manufactured pop and hip hop music!!
The 90's? I thought this topic was about "greatest band of
ALL TIME"?..
Where do you see the Black Sabbath or Pink Floyd then?.. what number?
Floyd would be in my top 10, sabbath would barely make top 30.
Think its each to their own - everyone either loves or loathes oasis.
My top 10 would also consist of guns n`roses, verve, status quo, metallica
Ive a mate who swears by BRMC and claims we`ll all be listening to that genre of music 10 years from now!!
Did you know that most rock bands today were influenced/inspired by Black Sabbath?
I guess you have your own opinions. Too bad, I disagree with most of them.

C`mon pac
buddy what can i do to win you over to the pro-oasis side of this debate???
Re: greatest band of all time???
If we're talking greatest in terms of musical influence...
1. The Beatles
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Black Sabbath
4. Pink Floyd
As for the Oasis argument, yes they were a good band, but greatest of all time? I could only name about 5 of their songs, and I'm a musician.
There are too many other honorable mentions to mention.
Re: greatest band of all time???
As for the 90's thing, that era for me was defined by the big 5:
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
Stone Temple Pilots

I'm a big fan of Nirvana. And Kurt Cobain and Oasis were really great buddies. Their music have lots in common.
Don't get me wrong. I like Oasis. I even play their music in my little garage band with my brothers and friends. But I'm not that really crazy about them. :)

Oasis will always go down as the biggest british band to never crack america.
Hence why in the UK, Ireland, australia etc they noel and liam gallagher are household names and wonderwall, roll with it are not just songs but anthems.
Go to america though and you`ll be hard pushed to find people who even know of oasis let alone are fans of them :mad::mad:
I personally grew up listening to oasis and the whole era their music brought to british society as a whole therefore they`ll always be my fave band however wanky their music gets (did you hear there last album )

Oasis had the bad fortune to hit America while the grunge scene was in force - their music wasn't raw enough to appeal to a lot of people into that type of music. They did get a decent push over here, though - more people here know of Oasis than you might think. We still play Wonderwall in our acoustic set, and it always gets a good reaction from the crowd.
Re: greatest band of all time???
Whatever guys.
Just don't get confused with the word "Good" with "Great". ;D Cuz there's a big diff between them.
Cheers!

Re: greatest band of all time???
I like a couple of songs from Oasis, but they are no where near being a greatest of all time.
The song I like the most by them is "Fuckin' In The Bushes", is was the perfect song to use in the movie Snatch.
Re: greatest band of all time???
On a side note -
The band that put on the most entertaining show I've ever seen never made it anywhere near "greatest" status. But they knew how to put on a show!
Nashville Pussy.

I don't really think there is a strong argument for Led Zep not being the greatest rock band ever. As far as all their albums, they fucking rocked. Maybe you don't like them but you have to admit that they rock, every single one of the albums were solid rock, no pop shit, not hoping at all to have any cross-over genre appeal, they just rocked... And despite staying in the confines of a genre, they were very very creative.
Also for a rock band, their talent is not likely to be matched. Start off: the drummer is one of the best ever, maybe rivaled by Rush's drummer.... Jimmy Page and Robert: Enough Said.
Also while you all can bring up a few bands that rocked out a few really kick ass cd's, who has the rock-solid longevity of Led Zep?: very few bands: the stones, motorhead, etc. I think a band that has less than 3 kick ass cd's shouldn't even be considered as the greatest ever.
Also they toured alot and very impressive as a live band.
Although not led zep. as a band and similar to the Eagles and the Beatles, the members of Led. Zep. were quite successful in other ventures such as Jimmy Page solo, Robert solo, The Firm, etc.
