Hmmm?? Holmes got kicked out because he wouldn't share the wealth with an organization that's supposed to be NON profit. Go figure!
It is non profit, all proceeds go to keep the hall running. Larry was making a profit.
And the Hall was making a profit off Larry.
No the money goes to the hall to help keep it running. It is only a profit if someone personally gains. Without these things the hall closes down.
Also there is an agreement before the fighters attend they know they have to help with the weekend.
I think you are confused with what Non Profit means

No, i understand what non profit means...but saying...non profit, and actually being...non profit, are two different things. Oh well.

I understand what you are saying now. I think they are non profit I just think Larry is a guy who does not want to do nothing for nothing so to speak.
He wants the ring though.
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Well for starters Larry was never KICKED OFF the premises...
Apparently during the memorabilia show, Larry had a table where family was selling Larry memorabilia. Larry went to his table and wanted to help the sales so he started to sign autographs there on the side. I was told that his stuff was waaay over priced. He had DVDs, Gloves etc. etc. but that the price on things was ridiculous.
Apparently the IBHF noticed this and called Larrys attention. But that was it. The writers over at fightbeat GOT carried away and wrote up the whole thing about him getting kicked out.
Larry did his acceptance speech which was funny so I was told and he got emotional.
So there you have it...
Still like I said in my 1st post, I've read and have been told about some of the things that have gone on. Hopefully things change for the better out there.
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Its never black and white (no pun intended) with Holmes. He seems to have that Jake Lamotta-like "I'm going to do what I want, when I want, everyone else be damned" kind of attitude.
Great fighter though... #2 HW of all time IMO

I'll buy that.
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Well the plot thickens now...
I was just told that Larry was infact told to leave the premises...
The updated story I posted is somewhat accurate.
Apparently Cliff (who used to be Larrys cornerman) had some tables set up and was selling some Larry stuff to which Larry wanted a cut from.
Then sometime there Larry was selling his book and with the book he'd sign it and for $25 more dlls. you could get another item.
So it's a bit shady because according to IBHF rules boxers are NOT allowed to sell autographs on Hall of Fame turf. So he was selling his book but at the same time he was signing stuff. So he was selling the autograph in some ways...
He then was told to leave the premises but he returned to the ceremony.
So which version do you like the most? :D
PS. Keep posted I'm sure I'll be back with something else. ;D
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Is there a version where Larry dropkicks someone? Thats the one I wanna hear. ;D
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
I wanna hear what Larry and the IBHOF bigwigs have to say about this incident. Sooner or later both sides are bound to come out with differing perspectives.
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
For what it's worth, I have hundreds of IBHOF induction autographs and have not paid for a single one.
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
As Mick Mentioned Holmes had some pretty good lines and went all Tony Robbins....:teacher:....
"When I said Rocky Marciano couldn't carry my jock strap, thats because he wouldn't want to.I Didn't say that to tear him down,I said it because I felt good about myself. No man is better than any other man,Muhammad Ali thinks he's The greatest...Thats his opinion.."quoted from Article at fightnews.
He reportedly told the young people to not think that the world owes them anything but that they owe the world something..... Class Larry

When told in that perspective it is classy but the way he originally said it was tasteless.
