Hey Youngblood, I didn't know you could still view the boards if you were banned... :p I guess you can't if your IP address is banned... :-X
OK lets just say there was a tea baggin clan for the CC/SC system with ten members each member would also get 10 CC's a day on top of there normal count so that was easy to fiddle.... maybe i should stop the club repping to make it a more fair system...but at the minute it is at test stages to me also.
the main thing this system pisses on the old one is you know what you are getting a repped/CC/SC for and for what post.
i love it but then i aint manipulated the system and my count is gen ;)
the only part of the system I don't like is the inflationary nature of the punch power that skews the rep meaning that our rep totals effectively double every four weeks.
This means that all of the rep you have accumulated in your entire time on the board, will now be achievable in just a month. Then within say 16 weeks all the rep you had just 4 months ago over 3 or 4 plus years on the board you could get in a single rep click.
It's a bit silly I think but the actual rep idea I really like. I do love reading my rep comments and sending them, and overall it's a good system.
The cc/sc system wasn't really open to abuse as there was no inflationary aspect to it.
If you got a coolclick 3 months ago it's still worth the same today.
With this new system you basiclly have to be repped every day else you'll fall hopelessly behind.
Take Wacko, under the old system he had so many coolclicks he could have left for two years and only a couple people at most would have caught him, such was his contribution to the site.
Under this new system he left for 3 months and we had people who had only joined the site in the last couple months with a higher rep than him.
That's what forces the repping in the first place, if you don't give out rep and make sure you recieve rep you fall hopelessly behind as your rep total diminishes in worth with every successive week.
We are now at the stage that a new member could join today, recieve one rep click from myself and have more rep points than the most senior member on the whole site had when we started out.
In another couple months we'll be handing out close to 100,000 rep per punch, and around 100,000,000 by Christmas. I know by then you'll have changed things around though ;)
Bilbo, Who says you have give out "Reps" and if you choose to give them out, Who says you give them the full "punch power" that you have?
Do "Reps" make you a smarter person? Did sad/cool clicks make you a better person?
Nope, They all just mean you are popular for one reason or another. Could be good or could be bad.
I go with the flow, but given a choice I would definetly go back to 1 click at a time... It was nice to see your ratio CC/SC and evn the good ole smiley...:coolclick: I think Bilbo is legitimate with the punchpower should focus more on your seniority than rep points...
its all about prespective of the numbers... the longer it goes on the more stable it will become and that is if PP is in the thousands or hundreds of thousands ;)
at the start i had people wanting to be able to rep posters at will... just imagine how high the PP would be if i'd have given in to that. ;)
but if the system means you have to be in it to win it isnt that better for the forum keeping people here than glorifiying people who cant be bothered to come here ;)
the main job of this forum is for boxing fans to come here and discuss thier fav sport... it aint and never was a shrine to members.... if it was Brad4dboxer would still be one of the most hailed members ever to grace the boards IMO 8)
People can selectively choose not to give full reps or not to rep for any reason other than a great posting but be realistic people simply do not do that.
We could leave money in boxes in public places for people to take if they are really in financial need and the system would work if only people didn't abuse it.
It's simply not as good a system as the old coolclick sadclick and the inflationary punch power is why. I'm not moaning now in the slightest I have completely accepted this system for what it is, and it's still a fun little system.
But I am entitled to my opinon as is everyone else.
Yeah I get what your saying Saddo. It does have it's good aspects and I have certainly had fun with it.
I don't see the clans as an abuse of it all though. If anything we are just using the system and making it more worthwhile. Besides no matter how much rep someone accumulates as soon as they stop the leading other members will have caught him in a week and he'll be outisded the top 30 in a month.
Yeah I miss the old smilies as well, although I'm sure Saddo could create some new rep ones for us to develop nostalgia over.
As I said I have come to accept it, it's just different from the old system. Whereas the old system was a permenant rating system that you could build a reputation over only a long period of time, this new system allows anyone to jump right in and get a reputation quickly, or after an abscene to rebuild it quickly again.
Ultiimately I guess it's a matter of personal preference which one you prefer.
I liked the old way but then I am admittely quite a nerd and love stats and records of all kinds. Most people arn't as anal as I am and so really don't care and instead prefer building up a huge punch power to smite people with or barter reps with.
It's quite fun having a constantly changing table and I enjoy getting back to number 1 after slipping down again.
I guess most people don't even ever check the table but it provides amusement and interest to me and a few others so each to their own.
a agree mate it is all new for me also... so i'm just seeing what happens with the systems.
one thing is noticable the bigger the PP you get your less likely to rep someone out of your clan for nowt... only posts you agree with or found really helpful.
you must see this yourself compaired to say reps you gave out 3 months ago to reps you give to non clan members now ;)
I dunno I see the new members as potential Baggins Clan conscripts and reward them liberally if they will only join my army :D
Look at Kid Thunder for example. Only been here a couple weeks and less than 150 posts and he's already got over 22,000 rep.
I've also made him Aragorn, son of Arathorn and heir to the throne of Gondor. I'm enjoying my new found power to bestow gifts upon those who please me
