Re: Calzaghe: i want Pavlik after Jones
This could be music to Roy's ears. his best hope is that Joe is overlooking him, and seeing their fight as a money making exercise. If Joe comes in to the fight thinking its gonna be easy and isnt 100% fit Roy could take advantage.
Wishful thinking i guess.

Calzaghe has the Ring title nothing else matters.
Well it matters to him hes had the belt for 10yrs
why give it up then fight when he can keep it and fight.
The why is in the fee structure.
If he gives it up he is free to not pay sanctioning fees. If he wants to defend it that's fine, as long as we all admit it's a novelty. From my point of view it's just a waste of money.
Maybe you think its a novelty, i think its great hes had it 10yrs id want to keep it its also the belt you would want to beat Joe for his WBO strap. Hes held all the other titles and gave them up it clearly means a lot to him.
One mans "novelty" is another mans treasure.

Yes I do think it's a novelty, the alphabet straps only have meaning when the Ring belt is vacant. RJJ is not trying to beat Joe for the WBO strap, he's trying to beat him for the Ring title.

Thats good Joe only has the ring belt at 175lb.

Re: Calzaghe: i want Pavlik after Jones
The only reason he wants to keep the Mickey mouse belt is because he is going for Joe louis' record consecutive defences (obviously at heavy) and if he vacates he will lose the chance! An absolute farce in my eyes not because he has not been the best super middle around for a decade but because he didn't beat the best for it if you understand my meaning. Calzaghe beat Eubank for the vacant WBO belt and I know that Jones had just vacated the IBF belt to fight at LH but for a long time Sven Ottke was regarded as the top man at supermiddleweight and had something like 20 defences of the WBC strap. When in Louis day there is no way this could have happened as there could be only one champ and the way boxing was then if there were two men ruling they would have fought each other, just not the crappy politics of these days back then i'm afraid!
The Ring should become an official governing body and end all the arguments and money making scams !

Poor old Taylor fights Hopkins, Wright and Pavlik and is 10.
How are Froch, Inkin, Lacy, Bika and Andrade above him?

Taylor is 0-1 as a Super Middleweight. His wins at Middleweight don't really count in his ranking.

Yeah i know that, but i would have thought the fact he did some pretty decent things at MW might have ranked him higher than the likes of those mentioned. Especially guys who have Robin Reid as their best win.....

It's the fighter that makes the belt though isn't it? Calzaghe has beaten the WBC/WBA supermiddle champ and of course the IBF champ in a bout we both favoured Joe to win, so the WBO supermiddle belt has the respect due to the guy who currently holds it.
Why would you want to represent a belt in which a dead man can literally move up in the rankings? The WBO has always been equal to the WBU and the IBO. It's a minor league belt.

You said RJJ is not fighting Joe for his WBO belt, i said good as he only holds the ring belt at 175lbs. The fight is at 175lbs i assume.

I think the WBO is a better org now that the WBA and maybe even the WBC ok it doesnt have the history but it only has one champion per weight. None of this regular champion crap just one champ and an interim champ if needed.
Anyway im not sure Calderon,Campbell,Williams,Pavlik,Calzaghe or Klithscko would agree.
Re: Calzaghe: i want Pavlik after Jones
I hope Joe does stick to this IF he beats RJJ. It would prove that he hasn't lost his bottle and would restore my faith in him. But I do feel announcing this now not long after the fight with RJJ has been sorted is a bad move, I hope he's not overlooking Roy. yes he's past his best but we've seen in the past fighters pull out one last big performance out of nowhere.

Yes I agree if he overlooks Roy he is in serious trouble. But if Roy has 50% of what he had 10 years ago left it doesn't matter he will destroy Joe!
Re: Calzaghe: i want Pavlik after Jones
I'm beginning to feel that RJJ may turn up very motivated, in shape and dangerous.
