Shifting of opinions: Knowledgeable? or Fickle fans?

Hatton-Tszyu is replaying right now. Love this fight, just don't think Tszyu at this age was ready to cope with such energy and raw aggressiveness from Hatton. Although, I think that it's a bad style matchup for Tszyu even in his prime, don't think he liked that type of unrelenting pressure.

Your right mate, look at his other only loss to date that was a great fight and tough going ,he didnt like it.

This thread might as well be applied to our very own Manny PACMAN Pacquiao who'm back in 2003 was considered a flash in a pan. His win over Barera was considered a fluke and his loss to Erik Morales reduced him to a "Gatekeeper" I remembered somebody in this forum said he might become.;D
I can't believe it has been almost 6 years that Pacfans like me have been defending our Hero here and elsewhere(my sign up date here shows that;)).
In that 6 years PAC made some of you a believer. Some like him already just hates his fans but regardless PAC's impact in the sport cannot be denied.

80% is being nice...
More like 95% were NOT Cotto fans... We were far and few.

I've said this before but I was 1st a Margarito fan then a Cotto fan but I started following Cotto since fight #1 up until today so Cotto to me is what Hearns, Duran and SRL were to people who were in their late teens to early twenties in the 80's.
I take it all in and enjoy the fact that I saw with my very own eyes one of the best current fighters of our times and if his career stands the tests and goes through a possible HoFamer and one of the greats but Cotto still has road to cover before we start talking HoF & Great.

(Can you tell I got really excited towards the end there ;D )

As far as I can remember in this forum, I agree with you CMM. There were only few Cotto fans then. People were questioning his ability to win against a fighter like Mosley much more against PBF.

After he had shown how he can handle the likes of Mosley, everybody seems to be in the Cotto bandwagon.:cool:

Fighters grow,evolve and Improve.....thus making new fans.Same with fans.Its really a natural occurence for open minded fans.....of course "Open Minded" is the key Lol.When I saw Mosley coming up,I could not stand him at all,Too flashy,big cheesy smile,fleet of foot (I thought),allll the constant Hype and declarations of him being "The next this,the next that" ,etc.After the Rivera fight....That all changed and I was on board.

as for Margarito.I first saw him live Vs.Rodney Jones in a loss and that was all she wrote...even in a loss.Then he went in with on & off power hitter Ankamah who was being pushed hard in promotions and Margarito pulverized him.Been a solid fan ever sinse.Win, lose, or draw...no part timer here ;D

Yes, I can remember the days when I was defending Pac in this forum after he defeated Barrera. Many were saying then that it was Barrera's off night. Some even said,"who is Manny Pac? He just got lucky". But we, Pacfans knew very well that time that it was Pac's time to shine. Can we be blamed for being die hard fans? WE were the first recognize his talents. Just like CMM had said (let me paraphrased him)....... it brings pride in us to have hurdled so many oppositions and critics against our fighter.:cool:

Am just happy that I don't have to debate anymore about Pac. ;D;D;D

Its a great thing,anytime you can do a 180 on a fighter.Better yet is seeing a fighters career from jump off and being able to say...."I saw it live" and followed him throughout.Sort of feels like a culmination.It gets more difficult as you go and the longer you follow the sport with the ones that have literally hung around too long from when You first started following them.I'm there right now with Holyfield and almost there with Hopkins :-X You remember where you were when it was all gravy and what was going on with there careers.You can not live on yesterdays alone Lol. Now you think.....ahh come on man,call it a career already !!

yeah man. I thought Hopkins was unbeatable after beating Tito. Hopkins was the underdog in that fight and he handled Tito very well.:cool:

Im not sure even the most knowlegable boxing fans thought he would be this good.

I mean he outboxed Shane Mosley nobody see that coming and he isnt known to be a boxer, in the purist terms.

I think also fighters have changed, as for what people say about boxers, I think peoples feelings towards the boxers and their threat towards people's favored fighters distort their opinion of that fihgter, or if a fighter like Cotto has bumps in the road on his way to stardom. I loved Cotto until he faced Torres, and it really took that Judah fight to put me back on the bandwagon, I thought his lack of chin would overcome all of his skills at the highest level, but up until now I have been proven wrong, thankfully, and he is one of my favorite fighters again.
