Maybe Jerry Quarry?
James Toney or what about the late Diego Corrales though not champ for long brought out the best in every champ
Ernie Shavers was a monster and scared his comtemporary champs. And if they didn´t fear him going in, they certainly did as soon as they tasted his power
Some really good names there but I think that Briscoe is possibly the greatest fighter never to capture a title and one bad mo' fo' who took several greats to the edge and beat some.
Fighters like Benton, Manuel Rodriguez, Monzo, Auntuformoe, Valdez, Emile, Mustafa and Hagler to name a few...

Maybe Andy Ganigan, was competitive against Alexis Arguello until the kayo. Also Ganigan was named 98th in the Ring Magazine's 100 Hardest Punchers of all-time, not bad for a fighter not winning a major title:)

I don´t know if he qualifies as a monster, but Victor Polo had 5 straight unsuccessfull shots at the world title, which must be close to a record. And in the first four he gave the champions absolute fits and came short of winning by the slimmest margins until JMM finally beat him convincingly
I was at Mandalay when JMM beat Polo it was on the undercard of JLC-Corrales I.
JMM displayed a brilliant arsenal of counter punching and precise movement to offset Polo the whole night.
Here's the picture I took with JMM after the fight. I remember talking to him for a minute and I aksed him how he felt about the fight. He said Polos punches were more grazing him but he could still feel Polo making contact.
He also said he thought he fought well and kept Polo at the end of his punches...

Would Razor Ruddock qualify as a monster. He went out with a thud in a couple but That upper-hook smash accounted for brutality ??
Jorge Castro.......Theres a monster who never relented or stopped coming.Actually could box a bit as well ;D
Frank Fletcher
....Juan D. Roldan ?
Currently Edison Miranda seemes to holds that distinction.
How about:
Ron Lyle
Ernie Shavers
Oscar Bonavena
Gerry Cooney
Mickey Ward
Emanuel Agustus
Some more will come, but nice post!
