Whats happened again
The GB squadHas the best Nuitrisionist in the biusness a guy called Nigel Ive worked with Him. He is superb, listen to him you wont go wrong. But this has been an ongoing thing, that hasnt worked out, still we still have seven in the Games which is Brilliant. ;D
What's the ongoing thing? do they not listen to him?
Not knowing what's going on it's impossible to point the finger, I have my doubts about Kayes, then again I think he was only consulted about Gavin recently, so maybe he was a lost cause before then.
Anyway, as you said it's a great result with 7, and Gavin will still hold a lot of cards when negotiating a professional deal, he should be able to start his career in a better position than 99.9% of guys.
I heard about this earlier today!Im totally gutted that he has'nt made the weight.I mean why has'nt he done soo?!A great opportunatey to really shine again and show the world his talents and get us brits a gold medal too.I bet he got a big offer of a top promoter to fight pro.I bet £££££ blinded him.I mean come on,how the hell has he and his coach fucked up his weight on the run up to a great tournament like the Games?Sound dodgey if you ask me.I wish him luck, but i'am gutted!
Bomp, The Bottom line is He qualified at Light There is young who has also qualified at Light welter so that wasnt an option. Gavin has a problem making Light He struggled in the Worlds to make weight, Hence 9 months down the line its become a bigger problem. Now its okay to start calling everybody involved a wanker, but Franky didnt qualify at Lt welter where the other guy did. Now Im just guessing but in the squad they Spar and I should think those two Spar together and the powers that be watch and observe whom at that weight is the better of the two. Now the so called experts are having a field day those who have an axe to grind are out in Force saying They told us so. Trouble is I never heard them say anything constructive. Only how they could do it Better, I know most of them and the bottom line is they couldnt its Bullshit.
Olympics: 'What happened this morning has cost Frankie Gavin a million pounds'
Kerry Kayes, the sports nutritionist who appeared to have salvaged Frankie Gavin's hopes of making the lightweight limit, has described the subsequent failure of the British amateur boxing team to help their fighter in his now lost battle with the scales as "criminal" and "devastating". Gavin is due to return home today from the British training camp in Macau, a day before the Olympic Games actually begin in Beijing.

Ah well I'm glad I'll look forward to seeing him in the pro's. I've never given two shits about the amatuers, it's not proper boxing at all imo, it's like cycling with stabalisers or swimming with armbands, who cares who wins, not I.
:pointlol: Frankie Gavin
I'm not sure if he'll lose that much money as stated, I reckon all this publicity has put him right in the spotlight and he will now be able to command a very good deal turning pro (ok maybe not as good as if he'd have won a medal). Its a shame though,
Jesus the Kid won a World Title nine Months ago a harder thing to do than winning the Olympics. Frankies up there with the Elite. ;D
Here's an interview with Gavin's coach, goes a long way to explaining why he didn't make weight. Interesting read if true, especially if like me you initially thought Gavin himself or his coach was to blame...
Frankie Gavins Coach Furious
Tom Chaney, Frankie's coach last night accused the British squad’s leaders of letting down their star fighter, by sending him home saying he could not shed the final 3lb.
The 60kg division was widely expected to be Gavin's chance of gold but Hall Green ABC's Chaney blasted the GB team for their treatment of Frankie.
Chaney said that they were aware of Frankie's ever increasing weight and ignored the advice for him to move up a division. Frankie was reportedly suffering from cracked tongue and other dehydration related signs in the run up to the event.
Speaking to reporter Ian Johnson :-
“Everybody who went to the Olympics had to sign an agreement not to talk about their experiences when they got home without permission yet Frankie hasn’t had that permission as yet and therefore cannot say anything except how sorry he is about what happened and that he is gutted at being sent home.
“What many people do not know, but Team GB did, was that for the last few months Frankie has been killing himself in training just to keep his weight down.
“As part of the team’s preparation they meet up every week in Sheffield and train from Monday to Thursday before returning to their home gyms.
“Frankie Gavin went to the Olympic Games proud to be British, proud to be a Brummie and proud to represent Hall Green ABC.
“He has come back severely hurt, let down, angry and, in my view, conned out of a gold medal.
“It goes back to the World Championships in Chicago earlier this year where he had a huge problem to get down to the 60-kilo weight. But he did it, went on to win the gold medal (the first Brit ever to do so) and to qualify for the Olympic Games.
“Frankie and I sat down and decided that it was the right time to turn professional. He was world champion and big offers came in from the pro ranks.
“But the amateur authorities came back at us. Frankie was offered a larger grant, which is a million miles away from the reported £70,000 he is supposedly getting, and told him they would get him ready for the Olympics.
“We wanted Frankie to move up to the 64k division but they wouldn’t have that. Bradley Saunders was in that division and it would have meant one of them dropping out after a box-off to go to Beijing.
“That would have weakened the team. They wanted two boxers with medal-winning prospects not one.
“Frankie was worried about the weight problem. He was told quite categorically not to worry and that they would ensure that they got the weight off him. The lure of the Olympics played a massive part. Winning a gold would have been huge and it would also have been a big incentive when joining the professional ranks.
“We decided to stay amateur and I accept my part in making that decision. But the end result is that Frankie has been let down.
“They promised to look after him and they didn’t.”
