Of course taking a knee is unpopular. This is a combat sport.
I'm not saying it's bad. If someone gives all they can and knows there is nothing left then save it for another day or retire.
But people are bloodthirsty. Especially people who like combat sports, like boxing. Taking a knee is submission. Viewers want people who are gonna act like they will put it all on the line in the ring. Problem is when you got $10 mil in the bank and another $4 mil coming for the fight your not going to do that unless you are a crazy mo
And specs like crazy mo's.
It's risk/reward. If you are getting paid 7-8 digits then people don't care if you gave it your all they want to see you put out or get shut out.

Not sure if Puya is still around- but found this thread and remember the knee Corley took- that was wrong of the ref- to which could be why some fighters know they have that option- but fear the outcome it could produce.
One wise time that sticks out was Tim Bradley vs Kendolt holt for the WBC/WBO belts. Holt, bolted him & he took that knee. Wise move, it payed off for him & he finished off strong.
If you have to take a knee in a fight then you should.
Smart fighters take a knee when they need time to recover.
It will not guarantee them a win but it can happen.
I'm pretty much the opposite, there have been many, many times I've wanted a fighter to take a knee.
Fighters don't take a knee because they lose that round, it gives confidence to their opponent, they think they lose some macho points, and most boxers have too much pride to show any weakness, IMO.
I've never heard, that I can recall, any commentators talking about how many times a particular fighter has taken a knee. Should we start keeping stats on taking knees to separate the smart fighters from the stupid ones? Do you think if we started talking about 'smart knees' fighters would start taking knees more often? Hell no!! Lol
