Hey easy mate on branding guys out here.. You have a point there regarding cutting weight.. But in Guzmans case, he isn't a natural 135 fighter remember.. Corrales is a tall beast for a 135 frame so the difference there already is obvious. Guzman never fought at 135 before and he easily make 130 a year ago. The issue here is why he didn't make it at 135.. He has about 3 months since they agree to fight. Remember guys they are professionals and knows the consequence of over and under trained. Since the Castillo debacle, they are already implementing a mandatory monitoring to avoid such thing to ever happen again. Guzman should know that better isn't. WHAT IT DOESN'T MAKES SENSE TO ME IS what are his team doing during his training camp? Their job is to monitor his weight and condition.
You can argue height all you want, but Diego COrrales wasn't coming into the ring at 148 when he was a superfeatherweight. Its unusual to see a lightweight come in at 148 let alone a superfeatherweight, that kind of weight gain means that he wasn't making weight easily, and he was doing something very unnatural with his body to get down there. Lots of times fighters will be within a few pounds of their weigh-in and not cut those pounds until closer to the weigh in becuase the longer they are at those low weights the more unhealthy it is.
As for Oscar, he should make 147 fine, he didn't just all the sudden come back down, and he didn't have any trouble making 150 against Forbes. He said he is at 151 right now, and that he will make the weight easy. If he struggled at all to make 150 I could see your guys' point, but he didn't so I think there is no conclusive evidence 147 will be a bad weight for Oscar.

Obviously he was destroying his too much in order to make 130, and sometimes that makes a guy skip a weight class. Thats why Castillo had a hard time making 140 after fighting his whole career at 135, and thats why Corrales skipped the LWW division, because he couldn't make 140. When Guzman is putting on 18-20 pounds from weigh-in to fight night, that will have its a toll on a fighter even if they don't go through wars in the ring, that doesn't mean their bodies haven't gone through wars in the sauna. If he still turned down the fight, and the chance to lose the weight it tells me something was very wrong with him, and that to do so would be very dangerous.
Now that we know Guzman pulls a Ricky Hatton in between fights, you're right, it makes sense, especially when he doesn't give himself a long enough training camp like Hatton does. The problem was that he let himself ballon up in between fights and had a short training came. He probably did very little conditioning during his layoff. If you are going to live that kind of lifestyle, you give yourself time. Guzman knew he had a big fight coming at some point. He should have watched his diet and done a little running before camp started. If he would have showed up at camp at 155 instead of 170, he could have easily dropped ten more naturally in a six week camp and drained out the last ten without putting himself in jeopardy.
Also, you can drain water from muscle much more easily than you can from fat. If he was draining 15lbs of water to make weight before, it was possible because he was in proper shape. If he had let his lean muscle mass drop by being out of shape for his entire year off, there is no way he could drain the same amount of water. Look at Tito and Roy before there fight...in shape, active Jones made weight no problem. Fat, inactive Tito had the weight issue.
Look at Bernard Hopkins. Why was he able to stay at MW so long? He stayed in shape between training camps. Same with Shane Mosley. Same with Roy Jones.
The same thing happened with Chico and JCC. They didn't take care of themselves between fights and as they aged, it caught up with them. If they treated their bodies like Hopkins treats his, weight never would have been an issue for either. Perhaps moving up one division would have been necessary, but they could have made weight properly.

Which is why I've been saying for a while that there should be a limit on the amount of weight you're allowed to gain in the time after the weigh-in.
If it's an 130 pound fight, you shouldn't be allowed to rehydrate over 140. If it's a 135 pound fight, you shouldn't be able to enter the ring above 147, etc.
that would be even more harder on fighters, that means they have to watch their weight twice before the fight. its additional stress the fighters do not need.

Too bad it's only a ban in Mississippi, that isn't going to hurt him at all. I hope he gets sued by Nate and has to pay out of his next fight's purse. Especially after what 3 fights in a row falling through with this guy.

I think the IBF has some additional weight restrictions......
