Re: Cotto: where does he go from here?
Oh I'm not taking anything from Margarito by saying Cotto got tired...the pressure Tony put on Cotto pushed him to be that tired. I think Cotto also got his nose busted up as well making it harder for him to breathe but hey Margarito won fair and square and was very impressive to withstand those punches.
Had Cotto been more light on his feet he could have done more sticking and moving and less staying in the way of Tony's punches. But that being said Cotto sat down on his punches further tiring his legs out.

No he wasn't IMO i thought the fight was even going into the 11th, Cotto badly faded after the 6th round and lost majority of the rounds after that.

I agree, Cotto was losing the fight when it was stopped, both in my mind and in those of the judges.

Cotto usually takes a round off here and there and when he took a round off vs Margarito that's when Tony jumped on him and Cotto had to keep moving and therefore never regained his power or his legs. But before the 7th round Cotto was taking Tony to school with counter shots and boxing skill. Margarito is a hell of a fighter no shame in losing to him.

I don't think he took a round off, he was exhausted and beaten up, the signs were already there by the mid-point of the fight. I agree that Cotto was looking great up to the 6th round, but it was a 12 round fight and Margarito had complete beat the fight out of him by the time it was stopped.
On the cards, He was behind by 2 points of two cards and even on the other. I agree with that scoring for the most part, he was losing to Margarito and would've lost a decision if he hadn't been stopped.
Re: Cotto: where does he go from here?
Then what are you disagreeing with?
Watch Cotto-Mosley you'll see Cotto took a couple rounds off but Mosley never did anything to pressure him and so Cotto was able to gather himself and close out strong. Margarito knew that and as soon as Cotto's volume of punches went down Tony stepped on the gas and that really helped him because he did it at exactly the right time...or else Tony doesn't win so many rounds and Cotto maybe squeaks out with a draw or even decision win.

I never said I was disagreeing with anything, but you make it sound like Cotto lost because he chose the wrong moment to take a round off. He lost because Margarito beat the shit out of him.
Margarito was pressuring him constantly, I don't think he stepped it up at just the right moment. It was just that by the 1/2 way point he had exhausted Cotto, and Cotto was no longer able to avoid his punches as well as he had previously.
Re: Cotto: where does he go from here?
Cotto got beaten by an excellent Margarito that night, its too early to suggest his career will go downhill.
He should take a moderate fight back then challenge for a belt
Re: Cotto: where does he go from here?
Cotto will fight a faded non puncher.
A Baldomir or Castillo would make sence.
Re: Cotto: where does he go from here?
Cotto should just keep on going with his career as normal. He is young and he is still one of the top dogs in the division. He don't need to stay away from nobody. He can beat them all. Margarito was just the better man that night but Cotto could be the better man next time...can you say triology??
Re: Cotto: where does he go from here?
Cotto has to show me he can box for 12 rounds to deserve the rematch, he also ran out of gas against Mosely who isn't as big as Tony. Maybe Mosely can get a rematch if he whoops Mayorga.

Basing from the result of the 1st fight, I don't think this match-up is going to a 3rd fight...
But even if it was a very convincing win by Margarito in the 1st fight, I agree that they should fight again to give Cotto a chance for redemption... or give Margarito the chance to totally silence or shut out Cotto...
.

Cotto would not fight washed up guys at this stage, he is elite.

Not sure about that. Look at his resume. He didn't look that dominating against washed up guys like a past-his-prime Mosley and when he finally faced a ranked big name in his prime, look what happened.
