The Greek phalanx was pretty vulnerable to archers and any other type of fighting that did not involve head on combat with another phalanx or a like-minded group of opposing infantry. We actually just covered the Hoplite/Phalanx in my military history and technology class. There's a lot of mythology surrounding the Hoplite. The Persians blundered away many victories. Check out "The Western Way of War: Infantry Battles in Classical Greece" if you find this stuff interesting, I've enjoyed what I have read so far.
But I do agree with what you say about Abraham, he has the tools to be one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, but his safety first attitude holds him back.
I enjoy Ancient History. I prefer narrative works more than text heavy stuff though.
My favourite books on the subject are Persian Fire and Rubicon both by Tom Holland. He writes like a narrative and its gripping stuff.
I also loved Heroditus 'Histories' and Thucydides 'History of the Peloponnesian War' was a lot more interesting than its reputation.
Always nice when we can turn a talk about a boxer into a history lesson :)

Indeed, want to debunk the myth of ww2 as a war where 'good' democracies fought 'evil' facism, and discuss how the allies were initially in collusion with Hitler?

I only know a fairly small amount about it so far, but it's intriguing, plausible, and supported by at least some facts. I'm buying a book that is somewhat related to the subject tomorrow, I'll let you know the title then b/c I can't remember right now.

I believe what they say about power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, therefore meaning that every government is inherently corrupt and self serving.
It wouldn't suprise me at all.

Abraham by KO. Marquez has a bad history of getting cut and swelling up real bad so I could see him being stopped on cuts.

You know... In the boxing predictions I am picking AA by pts, but I think Marquez has a really good chance of taking this one.
Marquez has a solid chin. If AA thinks he can sit on the ropes and win this one on defense a la PBF, you might want to reconsider. Marquez WILL work his body, I don't care how much he covers his body with those big elbows (his arms are really long fyi). I think Marquez is gonna get to him in the early rounds and hopfully take some of the pop off his shots. Marquez has been in the ring with much better opposition than AA. AA is proving himself in the ring.
The bad news is we are in Germany. This is a country that is content with scoring one goal in a soccer game and playing defense for 80 minutes to win. Marquez will keep busy but will it be enough to pick up a bunch of rounds early?
Marquez could really pull off the upset here, and actually land the Pavlik fight next year... I would love to see him do it. I think he has the skillz and the know how and he is NEVER out of shape for his fights.

Definitely reasonable. The point being if AA sits on the ropes for the first four rounds he may bury himself and not be able to dig out of the hole. On the other hand, AA can punch - ask Miranda. If AA sits on the ropes and Marquez tires from exerting himself in an effort that never actually threatens AA, AA may sneak back and knock Marquez out in the later rounds.
I am rooting for AA because I want to see him in a unification fight with Pavlik next year.

Would you agree that if AA doesn't convincingly stop Marquez, Jermain Taylor begins to look very good? Jermain stopped Marquez in 9 rounds when Marquez was faster and younger.
