Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
This is one of those fights that I care less about. I wouldn't pay a dollars if they where fighting in my living room.
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
Oscar has a big ego, boxers have to.
It no coincidence in 3 fights he has fought the top 2 p4p fighters, the 1 in between designed to warm him up for a rematch with the 1st and he is in control of the ring magazine.
Hes after a top spot in the p4p rankings.
He doesnt need money and calls the shots on any fight he has so he just wants the limelight.
Everyone complains about Oscar but who else could draw a small fighter up that much in weight, if nothing else these fights are entertaining and thats what professional boxing is supposed to be.
Hopkins is only just finding that out at 43;D

Benitez was a great fighter, but I will never forgive him for training 11 days to fight Leonard. Or the two weeks he prepared in fighting Hearns. I look on guys like that with distain.
I don't care who you are fighting I would expect you to train as hard as possible for the fight. These guys are getting the top dollar to fight at their best. Oscar knows that Pacquiao is a live underdog even if ignorant people don't, and he knows realizes that size isn't all that matters. I mean he went up to fight Bernard Hopkins who was way bigger than him. He fought the dangerous Tito Trinidad in his prime, he fought Mosley twice, he fought Whitaker, he fought Mayweather. He's foughten both the bigger and smaller guys, and I think he realizes that Pacquiao is going to be a lot bigger and stronger than we have ever seen him, and he has the heart of lion.
I hadn't heard that about Wilfred. The guy was really a natural, how great could he have been had he trained hard? I've heard that about other fighters like Vince Phillips didn't take his training all that seriously either.

Yep.I always see alot of slights against Phillips, how he was a journeyman lucky vs. Tszyu but Phillips was a quality fighter who's darkside and demons took a HUGE toll on him realizing full potential. His hard chin and wrecking ball right got him out of some jams.Had some nice amatuer exp. as well.
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
Oscar is "picking on" smaller opponents?! I love how some people always blame Oscar for everything. Like someone had to put a gun to Pac's head and say "fight Oscar or else." Pac had plenty of big, lucrative fights at 130 and 135...but guess what, like ANY fighter he realizes the $$$ potential of fighting Oscar. Oscar, for better or worse, is the ATM machine for boxing. It takes two to tango. And while i agree that BOTH fighters should be ashamed of themselves for taking this fight instead of dealing with people in their own weight class...you cannot single out Oscar for the blame. And even if you are an Oscar hater...i don't see how you can criticize the man's resume...he has consistently fought the very best throughout his career. He fought Forbes as a warm up for the Floyd rematch (trying to find someone who is slick and hard to hit to prepare him). Before that he fought the p4p king in Floyd...and i wouldn't exactly say he was picking on the smaller man in that fight. So now he will fight Pac and maybe Hatton in the future...not the best fights i agree. But i bet almost everyone on this board will watch the Pac fight and later maybe the Hatton fight. Right now boxing is struggling to bring in PPV revenue. So i'm not going to hate on Oscar for being one of the few fighters left who can generate interest and money for the sport. If you don't like the matchups...don't pay and see them...simple as that.

I can totally agree with that...

I have to say I agree with that, lets face it,fighting DLH is the boxing equivalent of backing up the Brinks Truck.
Direct and Dish are both putting on extra staff for this fight

I'm rooting for Pacquiao... He too was working/training very hard for this biggest fight of his life...
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
Nacho is probably the best trainer out there today. But Oscar switching trainers every fight shows the same kind of inconsistency that he has shown in the ring as of late. He rolls the dice every fight he has taken the last few years and his arrogance leads him to believe that thinks are destined to go his way. Yes Oscar is shrewd, arrogant, and in love with himself, but he is also a smart fighter and possibly a smarter businessman. I cant remember one of his performances, win or lose, that he didnt gain something. Next week will be no different.

I don't know what Benetiz would rather, that he have his marbles back or YOUR forgiveness:rolleyes:. I mean holy christ man, come off it. Read your post again and tell me you don't come across as a complete goof. Who the hell cares how YOU expect a fighter to train? All that should matter to fans is what the do in the ring. If a guy can have a half ass training camp and still whip a top fighter he get's more props from me personally. Guess I just can't imagine being boring enough to train so methodically. Obviously you don't have the same problem.
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Pavlik, Matter of fact I would love to see him get his fake ass knock out and I hope Manny kicks his ass.

Its always carefully calculated by Oscar so as to minimise the threat. Pac was fighting at 130 pounds at the start of this year. Oscar has been up to middleweight and is comfortable at 154. Its a farce. On paper it looks horrendous, but Pac has a big heart and is game so fair play to him. But as for Oscar....
I would much rather DLH fought Calzaghe at a catchweight of 166 pounds. Now that would be a huge fight and Oscar would look so STUPID. Pavlik would be fun too and could happen at 160. ;D Of course, DLH would never be so game as to take on such fights. DLH is no Joe Calzaghe and and Pac is no DLH so Pac will probably not look so stupid in this fight.
Come on Manny, rid the world of this stain upon boxing.
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
Interesting
I started a thread more or less saying I normally loathe DLH, but in this particular fight,Im rooting for him.
And it turns out 10 years of hating him ever since he said he wanted to quit boxing to be an actor, isnt even close to how some other people feel about him
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
You know miles you keep playing this hate card on Oscar and your saying he is palying it safe but your boy Calzaghe your favorite fighter played it safe in one of the weakest division in boxing for 10 years so i dont think you can praise one guy and get down on another who has fought better competion in his career as a whole just does not make sense why you do that i know your not dumb but ever thread same thing and well i mean what did you think of him fighting Roy jones jr because that was as big of a farce then this fight is with Oscar Dela Hoya why is it people hate a man with one of the best resume and has done so much for boxing dont get it is not the best fight but it while probably be bigger then any fight of late.
Re: Im Actually Rooting For DLH
Sure Oscar's A-team costs a lot, but as I see it, it practically pays for itself giving people additional confidence in him, which probably translate into bigger receipts.
Training at Big Bear, chopping wood, and those guys that he has with him is nice and all, but how much of it is truly necessary? How much of it is just creating an image for himself so that more people will buy into this spectacle? Would you be any more surprised if you saw Delahoya chasing chickens in the next 24/7?
Realistically Delahoya just needs train hard to ensure that he's half-way decent condition and makes the weight. Everything else is just smiles for the camera.
Now obviously he has a good left hook, he has the size, and he showed against Mayweather that he's not blown away with fast hands. The only question on my mind is how's he going to handle a quick little guy like Pac who has the workrate that could give him problems. In sparring didn't he have trouble with smaller fighters that could match his workrate, take Valero and Ortiz for instance.
