He was chasing mayoral office in the Philippines, rolling with celebs and clubbing it up.
People were saying he was past his prime and not as good as he was.
Now at the end of the year people are saying he could fight Zab Judah, (3 WEIGHT CLASSES ABOVE SUPERFEATHER) as a TUNE UP (!!!) and they get shot down because it's a pointless fight and Zab should go for bigger name opponents like Miguel Cotto, a fight that most now seem to think Manny would win :o
They are already talking past his fight with Hatton, even though a year ago such a match was seen as a mismatch and an easy win for the Hitman.
Now it's already assumed Manny will beat Hatton at 140 and people want him to fight Floyd and Cotto at 147 to take a proper challenge.
Seriously when was the last time an established fighter grew in stature and reputation so much in a single year?
Darn, I was going to rep you for that.. But my answer is never.. Not in the time i've been into boxing and not in the time i've been on this forum... It's amazing how because of how well Pac carried his weight up to 143/145, he is genuinally considered the same force at up to 147 than he was considered at 130... It is amazing, and 2009 for Pac could turn out some of the most memorable performances by a single boxer in the last 20 years...
To step upto a Cotto fight in Decemember 2009 is just insane to think of, but I will certainly not count it out now, and another year carrying around 145 pounds for Pac, he could be busting up anyone he can get his hands on..
It's exciting for the sport of boxing a guy breaking all the rules and showing us what we can expect from a real champion when they come along.. Heart and GIANT Phillipino balls!
And at this rate, he won't be taking any "what if's" into his retirement, and of anyone that likes to question a fighters talent for possibly ducking and weaving their way around a genuinally great legacy to retire on,,,, Pac is throwing himself on the grenades and looks like not leaving any questions unanswered...
It is great stuff..

why?? i think cotto would ko pac. we just have to wait and see how did the margarito loss struck cottos confidence, hopefully it didnt. but a Hatton figth would make more sense or a PBF fight.

You don't want to see more big guys lose? I seriously think Cotto is an open target for him.

<It's exciting for the sport of boxing a guy breaking all the rules and showing us what we can expect from a real champion when they come along.. Heart and GIANT Phillipino balls!> <Dizaster>
I think not only is he pumped up by those mentioned by Dzaster, he is genuinely riding on the belief, like Graziano did, that somebody up there likes him!
I am convinced, that he has given this connection plenty of thought. He comes up with, "Don't tell your God you have a big problem, tell your problem, you have a big God".
I know Holyfield was at one point so religiously inclined too. He too, was lining up wins, one after another. However vices and bad ways ran counter to this image he is publicly portraying. Unlike Evander, the PacMan has reformed from his brush with similar juvenile tendencies!
Seriously, this is insane. To be engaged in a brutal sport like boxing on one hand, and on the other, be a liaison for the fine spiritual teachings from above!

Something tells me Hatton's going to bring Manny, his team and these so called "experts" back down to earth when he whoops his ass.

I was having a debate about this yesterday with my mate at the gym, and one point i brought up was how Manny Pacquiao's body will hold up to Ricky Hatton's body punches ?

Definitely. Hatton is a fantastuc body puncher. I really think Pac and his fans are underestimating Hatton just because he got beat by PBF. Hatton at 140 pounds is a different fish. When he uses that jab and boxes he looks excellent and almost unbeatable. We seen that used at times against Paulie.

No one I can think of master...
Just consider this, last year boxing people won't dare to mention a Hatton vs. PAC fight coz they will be heavily cursed since it's the general perception that PAC has no chance at all beating Hatton...
Today, PAC is already installed by Vegas oddsmaker as the favorite to beat Hatton...
What a difference a year can make...

Re: A boxing expert hoping for a Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight in 2009
This news is just in .... ;)
"BECAUSE of the impossibility of a Margarito-Cotto rematch, Top Rank big boss Bob Arum has lined up Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao as a possible opponent for former world welterweight champion Miguel Cotto.
With Antonio Margarito’s one-year suspension, Arum has three prospects in mind for Cotto after his match with Michael Jennings for the vacant World Boxing Organization welterweight crown this Sunday at the Madison Square Garden, namely, Pacquiao, Kermit Cintron and Shane Mosley.
“I think you’d have to say that the rematch is on hold for this year, there’s no question about that. That being said, we would have to look for Cotto and the three that pop to mind—Cintron, Mosley, and maybe Manny Pacquiao,” Arum told BoxingTalk.com.
Epic fight
Arum, who promotes both Pacquiao and Cotto, believes that if both superstars face each other, it would be an epic fight.
“I think that he (Pacquiao) against Cotto would be an absolutely huge match,” said Arum."

Kendall Holt, Zab Judah, ? is that a joke ? the only names he should fight are Floyd Mayweather, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez.
no shane mosley?
Re: A boxing expert hoping for a Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight in 2009
He better concentrate on Hatton first.
Re: A boxing expert hoping for a Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight in 2009
I think 147 should have been a 1 time deal except if Mayweather decides to fight again. His next fights should be Hatton, Mayweather and Marquez. But Cotto could be a very intriguing fight if it ever happens in 2011 =).
Re: A boxing expert hoping for a Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight in 2009
"Bob Arum has little interest in Miguel Cotto taking on a rematch with Shane Mosley and would rather pair the Puerto Rican (Miguel Cotto) with Manny Pacquiao."
