Apart from Pascal (who himself was probably a year or two too green for Froch), I don't think he has fought anyone at all credible to be justifying claims of being the best SMW in the world. I think when he does step up against the best guys at 168 he will get found out.
However, I think he should beat Taylor. I've never understood the hype about JT, he's a guy who I thought lost the 5 biggest fights of his career (Hopkins x2, Winky & Pavlik x2) & yet still gets this hype as some world-class boxer. In addition, some of the scorecards he's had in other fights (such as against Ouma & Spinks) have been riduculously favourable towards him. I think Froch will have to knock him out or completely dominate him, just to make sure that he gets the win. Rant over ;D
He has beat Bhop twice - a first ballot hall-of-famer. Who has decisively beat Bhop? Calzaghe beat him by split decision, and Taylor beat him 115-113 all the way around. People say Bhop beat Calzaghe and beat Taylor. Bhop is great, but he fights ugly, and it is difficult to beat him decisively. Even if you felt Bhop won, you couldn't have judged those fights as not close, right? Even just that should merit some commendation. He had a draw against Winkie Wright, which is nothing to be embarrassed about. His only legitimate losses were to Pavlik. Without a doubt, he has been in the right with far more talented fighters than Froch. Not really even close. Thus, you must think Froch can beat Taylor because of his potential and because of what you've seen from him. Which is what?
In the battle of guys who keep their left arms low, I like Taylor - assuming that he has figured out his stamina issue by boxing at 168, which at least from how he looked against Lacy, it appears he has. He is more experienced. He is faster. Froch won't pose stylistic problems. The only reason I'm not completely sure is because Froch has a chin, and has a chance to outlast Taylor.
Why don't both fighters suck it up and do the fight for less money on Showtime?
No I could see the B-Hop fights as close, I had the first 116-112 & the second 115-113 in Hopkin's favour. I also felt he lost to Winky Wright 115-113, so again I admit it was close. The first Pavlik fight I thought he was behind on the cards at the stoppage (to be fair so did he) & I thought the 2nd Pavlik won easily 117-111. I have to say that I was a fan of his prior to that succession of fights but then he just kept getting favourable scoring from judges that I just went off him. It's not that I think he is a talentless fighter just that he was hyped to be better than he was, and that hype seemed, in my eyes, to help him win & defend world titles.
Also like I say above I'm not the biggest Froch fan, but I expect his power & his fairly strong chin to be the deciding factor. I don't think Taylor is the weaker boxer than him, I just think that he won't have enough for power to beat Froch. In my eyes, he's looked weak against guys who were basically LMWs so I think he will struggle with a big SMW like Froch. Also I feel Froch would lose to Kessler, Bute & Andrade for different reasons but I think his power is enough to see him out against Taylor.

If those wankers at HBO took their tounges out of the "home fighters" asses for a while and looked around then they'd know that Carl Froch is the most exciting SM about...
Fox TV screened this fight TWICE over xmas so true fight fans must know about Froch and know he's the real deal and will batter Taylor silly!
Did no one at HBO see the Pascal fight.....
Carl Froch world title fight goes to purse bids
Haha i think it is funny how you tell the HBO guys to get their tongues out of their home fighters asses when u are the most one eyed Brit boxing fan ever. I saw the Pasal fight and i saw Froch have a hard time with a very limited fighter, this hardly makes him the worlds most exciting SMW!Taylor, Kessler, Bute, Andrade, Bika, Mundine, Miranda, would all beat Pascal as easily if not easier than Froch.
For god sake Mundine is a joke, a disgrace to boxing, but his level of competition shits all over Frochs! Ottke, Kessler, Soliman, Green, Echols. Even Shannan Taylor would be Frochs second toughest opponent. Im saying this as an Aussie about an Aussie, if i took your line of thought i'd go on about how everyone is dodging Mundine and he is the most underrated fighter in world boxing or something.
If Carl was not British you'd be the first to say he is a sloppy fighter with bad defense, and limited skill.
I guess what im trying to say is dont have a go at another country for suporting there home fighters when u do it ten time more your way. Dont be a fanboy.
I seem to remember Larry Merchant being disgusted at Taylor in a post fight interview and also remember Steward being disgusted with him and ripping his head off in the corner (same fight).
The tounging i mentioned was aimed at the wanker who is Lou Dibella who like Taylor is just in it for the cash;)
It was only myself and Tam Seddon on this site who clearly stated that Froch would win a world strap and we both said this years ago when everyone else dismissed it as b*llshit.
And if Froch was from any other country i'd still support him...
So his hands are low? So what?
He's exciting and entertains and has (In abundance) something that the fighters you have mentioned don't!!
It's called character, personality...assh*le!
Which is why most of the fighters like Mundane ;D get little respect from me really.
They bore me and bring me little excitement.
I do have massive respect for Kessler for the way he gave Calzaghe a close fight.
He's a Dane ain't he?

Me too and i just hope Taylor takes it because i have a feeling this one will go off!;)
Very interesting Clash of styles and very hard to call.
I just think Froch is flying high now and also think he's got a bigger heart and is the more hungry of the two.
I see Froch winning this and what a way to kick things off and get the US public onside it would be if he scalped Taylor in his own backyard!

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.
When Jermaine is threatened by Froch he may well start gunslinging as in the first Pavlik fight.
I've always liked Jermaine, he could have been my favourite fighter, but he seems to have (shudders) a Judah-like lack of confidence sometimes.
Re: Froch v Taylor - Goes to purse bids on Friday!!
I like Froch a lot but I think Taylor outboxes him in this matchup.

Same as and i remember watching Taylor on his way through the ranks years ago (think it was KOTV or the other one on Channel 5 that was on at some mad time in the early hours) and he used to go all out and looked the next big thing!!
I think it's all in his head as well and he just seems to switch off mid fight these days.
When Taylor turns it on he's brillant and is a much better fighter when attacking, problem is he doubts himself because of his lack of power i think.
I've lost all respect for Taylor now anyway and his attitude towards the fight game is embarrasing.

A lot of guys would kill for his talent and natural athleticism.
Steward seemed to think his hunger was killed by wealth and achievement.
I would dearly love to see him get that hunger back and like you said go all out, Im actually think he has plenty power when he does.
Its just when he boxes so defensively he fails to punch with authority.
Also if he did in the Froch fight it could be an absolute explosion!
Re: Froch v Taylor - Goes to purse bids on Friday!!
once again HBO shooting themselves in the foot
Took them 10 odd years of endless toney, johnson, griffin crap before realising the true great middleweight talent of the era was fighting no marks in cardiff, wales
Hatton had to literally beat down the door before they cottoned on to the fact he was the man at 140 who would dominate for years to come
and how the hell did fights such as eubank-benn, benn-mcclellan, eubank-watson etc end up on showtime???

God u talk rubbish when it comes to Froch. U'd still support him as much if he wasnt british. As if! Character and personality? Talking yourself up and acting like a royal prick more like it.
Well done u predicted he would win a world title, but he has never beaten a champ. Fighting Pascal for a title is a joke he was barely in the top 10 168 fighters in the world. Froch did not even deserve a shot with his shockingly poor opponents list.
U have a go at Taylor and Dibella for being in boxing just for money, so fucken what? What makes u think Froch is in it just for glory? 99% of fighters are in it mainly for the money.
Mundine gets little respect from u cos he is not British, if he was u'd be his number one fan.
Lets see Mundine fights poor opponents, talks himself up to be much better than he is, and wins paper titles against unworthy opponents.... Sound familiar? Substitute Frochs name with Mundine and those sentences would still be true.
Oh and i hope your proud to call me an asshole, how long did it take to think that up?

To be fair Winky was a huge 154 pounder and at that point probably more of a middleweight but it wasn't his size that bullied Taylor around it was his jab.
Look at Taylor's last fight how beautifully he was able to counterpunch for most of that fight and how he was getting in punches over Lacy's guard so easily. He was more fluid then he's ever been and would without a doubt exploit Froch's lack of defense easily.
The problem for him is he going to get to comfortable and get hit with a dumb shot like he did against Lacy in round 5 I think it was. That's the only way Froch would win is if his power was just to much Taylor and usually I don't break fights down that way but that's just how it is.
I think Taylor wins comfortable he has absolutely no reason to be scared of Froch and anyone who thinks he is scared of Froch is a bit off their rocker imo. For some reason Taylor generates this hate when there is no reason he should. He's a good fighter who is in mostly good fights the only fights of his you can say were terrible were the fights with Hopkins which was Hopkins, and then the Spinks fight which was Spinks' doing.
Other then that his fights before he was champ and then with Winky, Pavlik have all been really good and even the Ouma and Lacy fights weren't bad.
Re: Froch v Taylor - Goes to purse bids on Friday!!
And there is no problem with boxers being in it for the money, the sport doesn't think about the fighters when they are in need of money returning the favor is how people fight for years after they should.
Re: Froch v Taylor - Goes to purse bids on Friday!!
Taylor days of fighting B level fighters are over. They ended 4 years ago. HBO should be given credit for refusing to show this disgraceful mismatch. Instead there being bad mouthed. Unbelievable. Taylor is looking for big fights. Competitive fights. Fraud ain't it. He's a paper champion. What champion did he beat for the title? Oh that's right. He didn't. The title was vacant. All he had to do was go life and death with fringe prospect Pascal to get it. :lolhaha: Yeah stuff of legends there.

so hes gone up to a B level fighter now VD ? he must be doing something right for you to say that ;D
