Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
I think the only fight left for him is a hopkins rematch.. and I would give my left AND right nut to see it. The only problems I see is roy jones demanding the larger share of the $'s (as he did in the original proposed rematch) as one last big payoff before he retires. Although this time around I think Hopkins would deserve the bigger share... or maybe even a equal split.
Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
I don't think he would expect the lion share anymore, that would be foolish, anyways if I am wrong feel free to throw it in my face guys, but I have a feeling he's going to win a fight that will surprise everyone before all is said and done.
Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
I think he should go for a Woods rematch;)
If he beats Woods in style not only has he legitimately jumped the rankings to actually earn a shot but Woods name is quite recognisable to the casual fan now I think, so its a fairly marketable fight that actually means a bit.
Do it in the UK and make a mint on the gate from the UK fans that never got to see him live, then at least he can say he travelled;D
Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
I actually said straight after the Calzaghe fight that I wouldn't be suprised to see Jones go on to beat Hopkins in a rematch.
If he fights on the golden oldie tour there are a bunch of fights that he could be very competitive in and win.
Hopkins would be a great fight.
Not sure if people would want to see this but I also think a fight with Chris Byrd at cruiserweight would be a possibility, both former world champs, Byrd a former legit heavyweight champ, not a terrible matchup in my opinion.
If James Toney could ever get his diet sorted him and Jones for a second time would be a nice way to end their careers.
If Winky beats Paul Williams that could be a natural fight as well.
Actually Paul Williams himself might fancy it and that would be one hell of a fight too.
All these fights would be watchable and winnable for Roy Jones.
I don't want to see him fighting legit guys who are coming to win and knock his head off. Definitely don't want to see him in with guys like Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik, Kessler etc I think he's too old and doesn't need to be taking on such guys when he's probably only around 75% of the fighter he was.
The other fighters mentioned are all past their prime too though with the exception of Williams who would be well out of his weight class so a fair matchup.

yea Joe didn't land shit, i'm sure it was Jones' corner that cut open his eye to make the fight more dramatic ala WWE
Yeah because cuts can't be caused by glancing blows? In fact its more likely to happen from a glancing blow, how often are cuts around the eyes caused by cleanly landed punches? Its usually the cuff or the seem of the glove that cause cuts like that, or a glancing blow which was Calzaghe mostly landed. Roy landed more flush punches than Joe did, it just wasn't enough when Calzaghe half landed twice as many punches.

I think him against Chad Dawson would be interesting because Dawson isn't a pressure fighter, has solid punches, but hasn't taken out elite opponents, and both of them are amazingly fast. Roy has a great body, and has always been able to take the body shots which Dawson lands about as well as anyone, but I think Jones wouldn't get annihilated by Dawson or Kessler. Against Pavlik it could really go either way, he could get smashed up against the ropes, or move and befuddle, and maybe even knock Kelly out.
But like you said I think his style suits him best against Hopkins.
I think Wright is a terrible choice, he's harder to hit than Joe, he's a pressure fighter can throw a ton of punches, I think he could make jones look terrible. I would have loved to see them fight near their primes.

Jones is shot dude, he looked good on Saturday against another shot fighter the same way he looked good against Trinidad who also is *gasp* shot.

with that said you're crazy, Jones whole strategy as of late is lay on the ropes and cover up, Taylor, Hopkins, Dawson, Kessler, hell ever Miranda will be able to keep him on the ropes and make him pay when he tries to counter, JONES IS SHOT! basically been getting worse since his 3rd fight against Tarver, didn't look all the great with the 2 KO losses back to back either

I see on boxingtalk that a fight with him and Jeff Lacy is a likely possibility. I like that matchup, good chance for one of them to get back in the mix and a winnable fight for both guys.
@ElterribleMorales, Just because someone is not at their prime doesn't mean they are 'shot'. Like any sport the differences in ability at the very highest level are marginal and if a fighter just slips say 5 percent then all of a sudden he's going to find guys a tier below him much more of a handful than before.
Nobody could watch the display that Jones Jr put on against Sheika last weekend or even Calzaghe a few months ago and say he is 'shot',
Past his prime undoubtably, not the great force he once was yes, yes agreed but he's a long way from being shot.
A shot fighter doesn't go 12 rounds with the number 3 p4p guy in the world.
Jones could still beat virtually all of the ranked righters out there in his weight class and at 168. He's slipped and is no longer absolute top tier but to say he's shot is an overstatement and also a disservice to all those fighters he's still capable of beating.
Even at 40 against Sheika he still showed the skills, speed, charisma and brilliance that seperated him from everyone else the last 15 years.
Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
Taeth Roy is my favourite fighter second only to Ali... but Calzaghe carried him.
He looked pretty decent against Sheika but I don't think that is because he has much more to give... I think that he's just found his level.
On his day I'm sure that there is still a winnable big fight out there for him, but the odds are against it and I don't think that he needs the $$$ or to help his legacy... both of those are solid.
The guy just can't let go.

He dominated SHeika, even before this fight I was saying he didn't look that bad against Calzaghe, how exactly did Calzaghe carry him? Calzaghe threw almost a thousand punches, he was trying to get through, but Roy's defense is really good.
Shot is Ali losing to Berbick, Leonard getting ko'ed by Hector Camacho, Duran losing to somebody called Omar Gonzalez.
If Roy was truly shot, Calzaghe would have landed way more, Trinidad would have stopped him.

Not in the eyes of the haters Taeth. It just confirms that A Trinidad was also shot, and that B Calzaghe is and always has been fucking shit ;D
Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
If he can continue to fight Sheikas,he might just do very well. But once he cannot dictate the terms, wait out his opponents mistakes for the flashy one-two counters and falls back to the corner/ropes against a top teir fighter....hes in big trouble.Roy is not the superman any longer and is sounding like he is just happy to be considered for a biggie lately.
Re: I think RJJ will surprise people
His old legs cant keep him off the damn ropes. Hes still good in the center of the ring, but hes been laying on the ropes too much for too long now. Thats not going to change, and neither will his sucess at the top level.
