Rocky Marciano got out because he had a bad back and I for one can tell you, hitting a heavybag the way he did ain't great for your back. He was going to have a comeback fight vs Ingemar Johannsen...I think he would have been 50-0-0 after that....maybe, MAYBE Floyd Patterson's speed would have given Rocky trouble but I think he would have remained unbeaten until Sonny Liston got up there, just because by the time Liston started Rocky was finishing up.


Joe Calzaghe could have stuck around for a few more fights.

Felix Trinidad could have done more...I still wish he and Shane Mosley had fought.

Khaosai Galaxy- Little past 30 years old and calls it quit. Was an asian Mike Tyson.

Ricardo Lopez- Still could have ruled for another couple years.

My understanding is that Hagler couldn't get the rematch so he retired. I'd say he made the right decision. Under the circumstances, no matter what he did, he'd never get redemption, at least in his own mind which is where it matters the most.

Not tryin to be a smart ass, just curious as to why you said Ike Quartey had an iron chin.

He got dropped by Oscar couple times.

And by WINKY WRIGHT like 3 times.

Very good fighter and I liked him but never thought his chin was iron.

His will was though thats for sure.

It has to be big George Foreman! 27 years old in 1976 and he gives it all up?
WTF ? Foreman would only have been 30 by 1979 when Holmes won the title.
I know the reasons why he gave it up but it is a shame as he still had a lot to offer and Holmes would have found Foreman a formidable foe back then.
Boxing history was altered considerably by his decision.

In Australia we had Featherweight champion Johnny Famechon retire at age 26 years?

Jeff Chandler,Bantam Champ that flew under the radar.

Yoko Gushiken from Japan.Dude was a whirlwind.Won his Jr.Fly belt in under 10 fights,made 13 defenses and then retired after a rematch loss,his only loss at the old age of 26.

He fought a Spanish guy after Barerra but when he was interviewed after the weigh in he was slurring his words he was so dehydrated and didn't look much better during the fight. He didn't fancy moving up in weight and had made a pile of cash so he packed it in.

Though I am a Rocky fan, Marciano would have had a damn tough time with guys like Patterson and Johanssen who were just coming up as well as a very young Sonny LIston.

He was already getting really unmotivated and fat and bald and eating too much lasagne and bracciole. Take it from me, one who is like him in terms of the same ethnicity. :D

George Foreman, yeah definitely--always wondered why there was no rematch with Ali.

Lennox Lewis...??!! NO WAY, if that guy hadnt retired when he did, he wouldve made a large mistake in it.
