Re: Winky Wright-Paul Williams RBR
I have a feeling I am going to be very frustrated with the outcome of this fight if Wright comes in sharp, IMO he will probably block a high percentage of Williams' punches who will get credit for output while Wright is actually landing punches. I just hope its not the same sorry excuse for judges that did Jones-Calzaghe. I am tired of people landing piece of crap punches just to score points aka Collazo against Berto, Calzaghe against Hopkins and Roy JOnes. IMO its not eye catching at all, and its a weak substitute for real boxing.
Re: Winky Wright-Paul Williams RBR
I love Winky, but I think the inactivity, age, and weight fluctuations are going to catch up with him. Additionally, Williams size and workrate are going to be problematic for anyone, including Wright. I'll be cheering for Winky, but I think Williams outworks him on his way to a UD/SD. Winky will claim he was robbed afterwards (like usual).

You're right. Every single loss Winky has he made an excuse for or claimed robbery. But in this fight I had trouble trying to find a winner. Now that it comes close I think Winky wins. He'll keep moving forward with his tight defense, constant jab, and force Williams back. He knows letting Williams back you up is horrendous. The guy's workrate is machine-like. This will be problematic but Winky can walk through anybody's punches with his defense and so he'll be forced to force Williams back.

And the same with Bradley against Holt. The funny thing is that when asked about it afterward, Roy's response was that the "pitty-pat" punches may have looked a lot like "pitty-pat," but they sure didn't feel like them. You should go back and check out his quote. You'd be surprised.
That is just your opinion and you are entitled to it. Personally, I don't like the Holding-and-Hitting style. That's just me.

AS Winky has gotten older, he seems to be just a come forward fighter. I don't know how effective he can be on the back foot.

He's still have enough gas in the tank to beat Williams. It will be a competitive fight.

I'm not saying Calzaghe wasn't throwing relatively hard punches, but the fact they were hitting him on the gloves should be credit to Roy's defense. Calzaghe sure didn't gain Hopkins' respect with his punches, and barely landed real punches against Bernard.

Got found wanting desperately against Bhop because of the fact hopkins is a very clever fighter and as velasquez discovered if you can work winky out early on you`ve won half the fight already.
The reason this is such a tough outing for PW is because we`ve clearly seen his physical abilitys on numerous occasions but this is going to test his mental stamina and ability to work his opponent out before its too late.
Going to be a very interesting watch and wont be a khan-barrera anti climax!

I agree that this will be a mental test for Williams. Will be be able to make mid-fight adjustments against elite competition? On the other hand, he may not need to if he just throws tons of punches and wins it on the cards.

We are talking about Roy Jones here. Of course he is going to have some defense. That said, Did you see his face after the fight? Bernard fought a tactical fight and although after the fight Bhop may not have respected Calzaghe's power, it is fair to say that he respected his ability. Bernard is a brilliant boxing tactician and Calzaghe outfoxed him, even if just barely. Even if you had the fight for Bhop or that it was very close, Calzaghe managed to make it his fight, which against Bhop is impressive.
Re: Winky Wright-Paul Williams RBR
I thought this was a site for boxing fans? Two pages on a fight the day before two of the best around are set to head off in a bout that could be a crossroads fight for Winky and a turning point for WIlliams.
What do you think Paul will do after the defeat?

If Paul looses it won't be a crushing defeat, but a close decision...maybe they will do a rematch, but I think Williams will go on with his career like he did after his loss to Quintana...business as usual...
Re: Winky Wright-Paul Williams - Let's Talk!!!
I see it a lot like the Wright/Taylor fight. That being said I think Paul is a better boxer than Jermain and Winky is older now. I'll take Paul 7 rounds to 5 winning a lot of rounds on purely out working Winky. As long as Winky hasn't lost it over night there will be a winner but neither will be beaten if you know what I mean.

Winky has been a great boxer but this late in his career with inactivity moving down two weights from lightheavy against abusy guy I struggle to see him winning . Wright has a fantastic peek aboo defence but it will be rushed from all angles by Paul and I can see Wright just taking a thrashing being beaten to the punch and coming off second best . Paul can really make a statement in this one and look the part but I feel Wrights experience will allow him to hear the final bell.
Winky found sucess beating smaller men moving up like Tito and Shane but he doenst hold those same physical advantages over Wiliams, plus he will be older and slower on Saturday
Williams will arrive on the superstar stage this weekend with an emphatic win over Wright. Paul UD .
Williams lost to Quintana because of his habit of being lazy with his jab and giving away this height. Quintana figured this out and had the perfect game plan going in. He timed him all night with overhand rights and Paul didn't have an answer. The loss was probably good for Williams in the long term because since then, he has actually fixed that flaw and has used his jab as a weapon instead of just a range finder. I also think he's been sitting down on his punches more.
I have no idea what's going to happen tonight. I credit both guys for making this fight and I can't wait!!
Re: Winky Wright-Paul Williams - Let's Talk!!!
This one is TOUGH to pick. All over the map. That layoff though, jeez.I think Wright has all the tools to beat Williams but that is a looong time out and Winky has some miles on him.Williams has the activy level but has an ugly defense...but a solid chin.He fights all wrong for his frame, bent over and plowing forward. Can Winky get that tried and true jab cracking ?Head scratching and just going to stop over thinking it and enjoy this solid match up.......but yeah,I hope Winky schools him;D .50/50 down the middle.
