The article may be rubbish, but Ricky Hatton does not need boxing anymore, he has shown he was a upper level fighter who only lost to the very best of his era, what else is there to prove?
Take your millions back to Manchester Ricky, make up with Billy, and spend the rest of your life talking of your excellent achievements, whilst supping down a few Guinness'!
It ridiculous thing to even suggest. Fighters get knocked out all the time. Most more than two times in their careers. The kind of damage that causes Parkinsons, which is pretty rare in fighters to begin with, is accomulated damage usually from fighting on too long. Ive seen guys get taken out on a stretcher and most of them should retire, some fighters who had a damaging career end up with some form brain damage, but Parkinson? Rarely. Its not any more likely for Ricky than most veteran fighters.
The Article is obviously bogus!
However, my son hit his head on the tile floor, about a 5 foot fall. We thought he was ok. A day later my wife asked my to look at him and we noticed he was experiencing paralysis on the left side his face and had a slur in his speech. He was treated in the hospital fro 17 days due to his brain swelling and bleeding. (A Subdural Hematoma) Scared the hell out of me and I had to understand it. My son recovered completely but although hardly noticeable there is still a slight change in his pronunciations. Follow ups reveal a scar on his brain.
This is exactly the type of damage that can occur from most any blow to the head. Basically a seizure is what happens when brain signals don't reach where they are intended to go. While we don't know for sure if Hatton experienced a seizure or not, he certainly experienced enough impact to his brain for him to lose complete consciousness. Unless involuntary unconsciousness (KO) is another definition for a seizure.
There is not enough knowledge about the short term to long term causes and effects of brain injuries to be able to say for certain whether or not fighters will experience neurological diseases in the future from blows such as the one received by Hatton. If I were say that to a Neurologist, he'd probably say I was an idiot! ;D

He got KO'd it's boxing, that happens...Ali never got KO'd like that and he got pugilistic onset parkinson's and if you live long enough you too will get parkinson's because that's the natural way the nerves in the brain break down. The problem occurs when it starts earlier in a person's life or progresses really fast. I'm sure by being a boxer Ricky has put himself more at risk but hell he never would have made half as much money doing anything else
anyone being in a car accident? What do you think that does to your brain? Rapid acceleration/deceleration.

You can injure yourself in any number of ways, maybe we should all wear those special headguards spaza's wear in case we bump in to a lamppost and accidentally cause a brain hemorrhage.
Oh yeah, eat fibre and don't strain when you go the toilet because that can kill you to.
Lots of fighters take a beating, lots of fighters get ko'd they don't all become cabbages 10-20 years down the line.....the rest get put out to pasture talking like they've got a brain injury on programmes like sky/setenta.

I hope Ricky will retire and drink some beers and become a really rich fight fan. Ricky is a great guy.
