Re: Hopkins turned down a fight with Kessler
If this is true then Mikkel Kessler has no one to blame but himself, what the hell has he done since losing to Joe Calzaghe. That makes him believe he deserves his shot against someone like Bernard Hopkins ?
Mikkel Kessler is a good fighter but he reminds me of Kelly Pavlik, except he is a better boxer and has a more array of punches. I can't see him doing that much better than Kelly Pavlik did, i see a 9-3, 8-4, victory for Bernard Hopkins here.

Not like you to be cynical about statements made by European boxers! After all, doesn't the phrase to "Welsh" on a deal mean to follow it through exactly as agreed ;) .
I actually like Kessler. But ever since the Miranda debacle, in which he punked out of a very win able fight I don't believe him.

How do you know it wasn't his promoter who sctratched the fight?

Show Time which has no ties to either Miranda or Kessler pretty much said it was Kessler. I see no reason they would lie

Not that I really care much about this but wouldn't that be a reason not to take it, not the other way around? And 4 million would be less of a joke if he wasn't a millionaire.
If I was to take it seriously I would wonder what's going on with Kessler. This seems almost like posturing. He just needs to fight, anybody. If Bernard wants this fight he would set the terms, I always laugh at people calling him out, he is clearly not going to have terms dictated to him. Not by Kessler at least.

He's locked in a legal battle with his soon to be former promoter. He can't fight until it gets resolved (I think). I assume the supposed offer to Hopkins took place prior to this.
Re: Hopkins turned down a fight with Kessler
Haha with 1 or 2 Huge fights left before walking away for good he should do just that.Although Hopkins has had some potential biggie rematches go by the wayside....Calzaghe retiring....Jones being trounced and clearly finished.I'm betting he was rooting for Taylor in a big way before he fell to Froch. What a way to end career with a revenge win like that ?Who knows.
Kessler is a quality fighter but high mainstream interest on the Stateside stage and remaining in obscurity over in Denmark do not exactly go hand in hand.Kessler had solid momentum after his battles with Andrade and Calzaghe and since has for what ever reasons watched it fizzle.Seeing as its the end...Hopkins is going to want more than 4 mil and a fighter with higher visabilty.

Agreed. Hopkins should retire as I can see a younger fighter like Kessler really doing a number on him over 12. Hopkins looked good against a woefully limited Pavlik who was lightyears beyond normal fighting weight. Kessler is a far more rounded fighter and would outwork Hopkins handily.
Hopkins is overrated anyways. First proper opponent in recent years who was comfortable at the weight was Calzaghe and Hopkins lost. He's been winning in recent years by being Mayweather-esque. Tarver was a decent win but outside of that I don't really rate his performances since Taylor.

He doesn't wanna lose to another "white boy"
Re: Hopkins turned down a fight with Kessler
This is actually old news from Feb/March time.
As for $4million not being a good offer... that amount would be one of his best ever purses, I think only against Oscar, Tarver and Calzaghe would he have bettered it. He got $3m for both Winky and Pavlik.
Hopkins has NEVER been a good seller. He just did a pathetic 190,000 PPVs with Pavlik. You don't get Oscar/Hatton/Mayweather money with numbers like that.
There are no huge money fights left for him.
Dawson is a complete nobody outside the hardcore - proven by his pathetic numbers with Tarver. Adamek was offered peanuts so Hopkins could make a decent wedge. His last BIG money fight was Jones, which was verbally agreed, apparently, but obviously Calzaghe ruined it.

To be fair to bhop the marketing for the pavlik fight was pretty lame
He got huge ppv buys for the ODLH fight and despite his defensive technique even at 44 is one of the most marketable fighters out there.
Adamek/Dawson/Froch/kessler - all would be excellent fights and hopkins would probably win all of the above.

Don't be silly.. everyone gets huge PPV numbers when fighting Oscar. Mayorga wasn't too far short of the Hopkins number. Since then Hopkins hasn't even come close to half the amout he aided Oscar getting.

Haha, I have been saying that for about 6 years now;D
lol me too. In fact when he fought Oscar I thought that Oscar had a great chance because surely Bernard was going to start showing his age sooner or later.

But they weren't dealing with Kessler, they were dealing with his promoter, and Kessler is currently involved in a legal battle to get out of his contract because he says his promoter won't make big fights for him and keeps matching him with Euro mandatory nobodies. The legal proceedings started just after the Miranda fight fell through. I think we should wait and see which fights get made after he leaves his current promoter before we go blaming the boxer.
