Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
£400 seems a rip off to me and no offence but he ain't gonna be doing a great deal really is he?:-\
Was the first fighter i ever saw in the flesh as a toddler.
Think my mum still has the pic somewhere.
He came to Southampton as a World Champ and opened a Supermarket believe it or not  and my Dad took us down there.

Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
been chatting with a couple of mates this weekend about the Ali visit
At 500 to meet the guy it would have been still a bit steep but would have gone for it - 1250 (excluding VAT !) is just ridiculous.
But as Adam says - 400 for the cheap seats :-\. If I went I would want a pic to show I had met the guy for sure.
Will see how they sell....
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
Was tempted before I seen the prices. An absolute rip off and money making scam off his name.
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
£400 to look at a man who I hate to say is probably a mere husk of his former glory...
If I can't shake his hand/speak with him then I'd rather watch a fight/documentary about him for free than pay £400 sit and look at him with a bunch of rich arseholes who likely know very little about Ali himself... let alone boxing.
I like how they' glossing it up with a 4 course meal etc... that totally makes it seem like a better deal...
Anybody who has worked in a resturaunt/hotel etc knows how much of a mark up and how cheap food is... will barely cost them anything.
I would pay to meet Ali... but whilst Ali is bigger than Evander Holyfield is - I paid NOTHING to see Holyfield, shake his hand, say hello, get an autograph and a photo with him... so lets put it into perspective.
I'm not paying 400 quid for a shit meal with what will most likely be a bunch of twats just to get a glimpse of Ali.
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
I remember when I met Hatton for £80 with a 3 course meal. Meal was garbage. Tomato soup which tasted like it had just came out the packet. Roast chicken and veg which was probbably that smart price £2 chicken you get at asda and the veg was cold. And shitty mini cakes for dessert.

Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
I saw him when I was eight when he came to South Shields. It was a huge event with tens of thousands turning out to see him and Ali in an open topped bus.
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
I hope Ricky Hatton doesn't do his Bernard Manning act at the dinner. He's doing his act and he'd better not start fing and blinding.
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
Guys all I can say is If there is anyway possible you can get to meet Ali Do it. I've had the good fortune to meet him 3 or 4 times over the years its an experience you'll never forget. When Ali enters the room its electric.
I will never forget shaking his hand He is an awesome guy

I've just spent £2800 on a training course that I need to do in order to work/be insured as a self employed/free lance personal trainer to tide me over until my Fire Service placement FINALLY (!!! >:|) starts and then so I can earn a little bit of extra money on one of my days off.
So it's pretty important and could affect the rest of my life... if not at least long term future... but if you'd told me about Ali 2-3 weeks ago I'd be contemplating whether the money would be better spend towards 15 minutes with the guy... :o:-\;D
Which fire service are you trying to get into?
I am in South Wales Fire and Rescue.;D
Good luck, its a great job apart from the odd bit of death and destruction.
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
Primarily Tyne and Wear but also Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland etc.
The destruction bit doesn't sound too bad! ;) Joking aside a mate of mine was telling me about controlling a fire in some abonded flats via demolion... I can't remember the purpose exactly, smashing certain walls to try and control the spread of the fire/oxygen etc or something... sounded like fun... put a sledge hammer in my hands and I'm a happy boy... ;)
Re: Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK
