Re: Kahns route to his paper title
So what is so different about Khan's route compared with other "world" champions?
He beat a bunch of guys, was offered a WBA shot and won it.
Kotelnik was ranked 4th best Lightwelter by The Ring and 7th best by the Saddo ratings.
That was a great win for Khan.
Re: Kahns route to his paper title
Amir Khan only solidifide what we already know , hes a top class boxer , but the fact is he has a glass jaw.
Im putting money on Warren matching him with " former WBA world champ " Gavin Rees in his first defence .
After all Warren and Khan both stated they now want only big fights !! lol

That's higher praise than I've ever you give a British boxer before Al.
I know Calzaghe is just a slapper to you, Kell Brook is 'very poor' and doesn't punch hard enough to suceed at the higher levels, but Khan is top class!
What makes you think so highly of him?

Kahn came on to the scene with a sparkly silver medal and blew onto our screens with a first round knockout over david bailey who came up 7 and a half pounds to get destroyed in the first. Its ok though its his first fight. He was fed 12 more victims to compile an immpressive 12 wins with 9 knockouts. But hes still learning. Kahns first big show his first test willie limond natural super feather with feather fists. Kahn is down and almost out revealing his pecker chin but he beats the count.....just. Lucky for kahn limmond couldnt finish his dinner. Next scott lawton coming off his first stoppage loss against thaxton lawton good at central area level always shot down at level above. Lawton froze in the lights and kahn took him apart. Also lawton cant burst a balloon. Next graeme earl coming off his first stoppage defeat in a war with michael katsidis, a war that takes the fight out of fighters. Kahn jumps on earl then drops him flash knockdown storms in for a premature stoppage. Perfect for kahn, Perfect match making. Onwards and upwards kahns fed two more soft touches and wins the wbo inter bauble. Next a decent name Michael gomez who made his pro debut when kahn was 9 years old had lost his last 3 significant fights by stoppage and had seen his best days in 2003 at superfeather. Kahn hits him and down he goes in the first. But up he comes to drop kahn and give him a tough fight till his age and wars catch up in round five and he is stopped. (Kahn does not look ready to fight for a world title) frank warren insists.
Next chapter the revelation of kahns punch resistance. Breidis prescott. The only undefeated fighter kahn has fought to date, A career lightweight, a puncher, His first real real risk. KO'D IN 1. he was rocked by a jab and shown that his chin is china. Where from here surely he wont be winning any world titles soon!
The comeback trail. Fagan. Enough said. Then One of the best peices of smoke and mirror match making i have ever seen, A legend barrera, Kahn wins via technical decision in what should be a no contest, This fight was made to look like a huge risk but these reality tv shows have ways in making the audience think this.
And here we are Kahns world title after defeating the legend which puts him as the mandatory for marquez he moves up to fight kotelnick. And we watched kahn run for twelve rounds and bruise kotelnicks gloves i honestly think those gloves will now retire.
So there we have the brilliant trail to the top for kahn. Dont get me wrong kahn is good im not disputing that i just dissagree with manafacturing a fighter in a warriors sport. I hate x factor, I dont want to start hating boxing.
Welcome to Saddo's Feeney... Not many of us here watch the X Factor ;D
The only thing i can say is that here at Saddoboxing, we like to keep things in perspective. So although most of us here respect Khans talents fully. Im sure we all know that he's one good punch away from defeat ;)

Khans a nice enough lad , and he has talent . Khan lives not a million miles from me and does plenty for his community , but he comes unstuck big time when he meets a world class puncher.

I got the sense I was witnessing something great in the making - The birth of a superstar. The same feeling as
Tyson vs Berbick
&
Lewis vs Rudduck
The assult Khan dished out to Kotelniks gloves was brutal. I doubt they will ever be the same again .
Re: Kahns route to his paper title
The path Frank Warren laid for Amir Khan to walk to fame, stardom and a world title is dissapointing and genius at the same time.
But one thing is for sure, you can only sneak your way so far in boxing, we boxing fans aint blind morons. At some point in time your guna have to start facing real top class quality to reach the heights Khan wants to reach.
This started Saturday night. For all the questions you could lay claim at Khan Kotelnik was a legitimate world champion. A weak one but still good enough to be one.
Step 1, you cant question the level of Kotelnik, hes not blown up Featherweight, hes no shot fighter. Not a ring legend but clearly of a high standard.
So hes took that 1st step, real step against a real champ. He CANT take a step back now or all the hard work would be damaged. He has to take the next step.
Re: Kahns route to his paper title
If getting famous and being sucessful is so damn easy why are so many people sitting behind a computer bitchin about them instead of going out and get rich and famous themselves. Look people hate khan for the same reason as the rest. Cause he winning. If he was some 2-6 fighter who has no chance of a future then no one would pay him any mind. So if he were not winning then what reason would we have to hate him. Paper title or not there are tons of fighters who never make it to the positon this kid has in thier whole career....heck any career. Some have a hard enough time even being the best cashier at wal mart yet they are quick to bash these guys who they only know because they are good in the first place....what should khan do say "no no guys i don't want the money, women, belts, name and pic in magazines " etc.....a bunch of people online dont think i deserve it. Right now prescott is the only one who can really dog the guy, instead of lip service he laced up and whoooped him, other than that thus far he's won, so even if you feel he only deserves a little bit of credit for it at least give the guy that. All that being said i don't see the guy as all that great but i do belive he can get better. Will he i don't know.
Re: Kahns route to his paper title
when this guy used to hold the same title as you, it's gotta say something...

Con beat a non-puncher paper champion who had no buisness being champion in the first place. Maidana should of got the win against Kotelnik. And that's as you love to say a fact
Re: Kahns route to his paper title
I'm a bit with VD here, non puncher with a title that don't mean anything.
Still, Khan won clearly and I give him credit for his improvements and his win. Which is a first for me.
