I honestly think that if he wanted to fight Cotto at 147, he would. But I honestly think that he doesn't. Manny fought Oscar at 147 because he knew he had the advantage over someone who had not fought at that weight in years. He's fighting Cotto at a catchweight because at 147 Cotto has the advantage and because there was absolutely no way that Cotto would agrtee to 143, an insane weight for Cotto to make. I believe Pac-Man and Roach know Manny has a tough fight coming up, the toughest of his career. If Beating Cotto is a given, then the contract would have been signed long ago.
Arum: Knows he's going to make a lot of money, so he is pushing the fight and trying to appease both foighters without alienating either.
Manny: Knows he might get the living shit beat out of him, so he is trying to score financially and professionally as much as possible.
Cotto: Knows he will defeat Manny and wants to get as much as possible financially while doing it.
Agreed. I don't really buy the argument that it is Roach that is making the noise, and not Manny himself. Technically it may be true, but I'm sure that behind the scenes, Manny is calling the shots. He is after all the one who is paying the bills.
Re: Besides Pacquiao fans
There is absolutely no reason to dislike Pacquiao as a fighter, but some people favor one or more of his opponents, they have feelings ….. and nobody’s perfect.

That's the nature of boxing. The boxer with leverage will have all the advantages in his favor. Oscar DLH brought Hopkins down to 158 for their fight with him getting around 65-70% of the purse, same thing with him making Manny jump 2 weight classes to fight him and getting around 65 to 70% of the purse. JCC brought Pernell Whittaker down to 145 and fought him and got 65-70% of the purse. Same with Leonard and Lalonde in '89.
The man with more power and leverage will use it to his advantage.
If Miguel Cotto was the bigger star and #1 p4p everything would be in his favor, as in fight weight, purse %, fight venue, etc. Am I saying it's right, no, but that's the nature of the business side of the sport.
This is true, very true. Not always right, however. I think Cotto will win the fight, but Cotto needs Manny more than Manny needs Cotto at this point.
Re: Besides Pacquiao fans
PAC had beaten some people I could say were my favorites along those weights but boxing is a sport and it is a business, a rough one but these fighters I felt bad for in this soap opera of finding the best pound for pound. All I'm saying is that some of the fans were just pissed off that they lost bets or bragging rights. Sometimes the fans imagine themselves being in that ring themselves and they have their own ideas and even in our forums we compare boxers of one era to another but we are fans, we're entitled but hate is a strong word so we disagree but we love it just the same. Manny is a representative of his fans just like any other boxer out there today with a fan base.
Re: Besides Pacquiao fans
i think roach calls the shots not pac, pac roach partnership is beyond boxing. he trusts roach so much that if roach decides that pac should fight a HW, pac will. :)
pac is best when he obeys people around him, im not saying that he cant think for himself but roach knows whats best for him boxing wise.
whats to hate? none really but some peeps here just hate him, nuthuggers are long gone here in saddo and still they hate on pac. i dunno, they just find some other reason to hate him. ehehehe

LOL. I'm still here. The last standing Pac nuthugger.;D;D
I hope I could tell my grandchildren someday that I was here in Saddo nuthugging Pac.
My son is now ten months old . Hope he could still see Pac fighting at an old age (maybe around 35) and I will tell him that Pac is an ATG and that I have witnessed his famous fights.;D;D
When my son gets older, I hope he continues my account in Saddo and I will become the legendary brucelee. My account will be passed like an heirlom and my grandchildren and great grandchildren will be Pac nuthuggers like me. Saddo will be dead by that time and I hope he has a son to continue this forum. ;D;D

***This is Pacquiao's mindset, that is why he called Bob Arum's attention right off the bat, after seeing Miguel Cotto's fight with Clottey at ringside.
I guess after witnessing Cotto being badly battered by Clottey the majority of the fight, but somehow managed to escape with a draw, he concluded that if he is to cherry pick, Cotto is his "man".
Miguel Cotto is the man and the fighter whom Pacquiao know will get the living shit beat out of him, but he however, will be ably compensated, provided that "he try to score financially and professionally as much as possible".
"Cotto: Knows he will defeat Manny and wants to get as much as possible financially while doing it".
Does this mean that he is sure of defeating Manny? That....
**** he is willing for the fight to be cancelled as long as his demands that he regards with utmost importance, are not met.
...that even if a viewed, sure win gone kaput, will deny him of a place in history, the biggest paycheck of his boxing career, and most high profile fight with the unlimited potential in the future?
He is willing to risk all of the above as long as he in turn "can" deny the demands of Pacquiao's camp?
Smart man that he is, how he can forego a "sure win" ?
Well I guess peace of mind in getting all your demands met, when you are the big dog in the negotiating table, is more important, smart man that he is.
If Manny "cherry-picked" Cotto after the Clottey fight, how come Manny has made all these demands against Cotto, specifically wanting Cotto to slim down to 143? If it is such a "sure win," what is Manny afraid of?
Re: Besides Pacquiao fans
great fighter
great role model
great person
I laid a hell of a lot of money on ricky to beat him as i did when oscar and JMM fought him hence the fact ive lost a hell of a lot of money because of the little sod.
But credit where its due, the guy is a complete boxing legend and will be spoke about long after we are all dead!!

So PAC has no say as to who he fights or what weight he fights at? PAC ain't no trained seal, if he wanted to fight at 147, I'm sure he'd say so.
If it really is a case of Roach calling the shots, then it's because PAC says it's ok for him to do so. But ultimately it is PAC's choice, and not Roach's, there's no way around it. Like someone else said, if PAC didn't want to fight at 145 he wouldn't. end of.

because when pac fought at 147 he weighed in at 142 during the weigh ins and only gained 6 pounds on fight night. Cotto weighs in on 146 during weigh ins and ballons up to about 160 for fight night. pac would be outweighed by about 15 pounds.

Wasn't Oscar expected to outweigh him by a similar margin?

yea but does cotto bring in as much $$$ as oscar? they took the risk for the reward. Cotto is risky but pac can find similar reward a cotto fight has to offer.

Nobody brings in as much money as ODH used to. However, aside from Mayweather, there is no other opponent who would bring in a much interest (and thus money) as Cotto.
