Im a big fan of Floyd Mayweather Jr, which is probably why i like Joan Guzman. Because you can see the similarities are there, but im not sure bro. I agree he's still fresh but his style is based alot on speed, and whether or not he hasn't had alot of wars. He's still gonna be slowing down soon which is a shame, because he really should be a P4P fighter.
Guzman has a very similar defensive style to Floyd but is far more wild, crazy, winging and macho which makes him very different from Floyd and more exciting to watch, IMO.
Yea i agree i also think people who say Joan Guzman is boring, are nuts i think he has a pretty exciting style. And given the right opponent, i think he could be in a FOTY candidate. I think he would of beaten Nate Campbell handily, and i can't see anyone troubling him at 135 except Ali Funeka.

I've said this before, but I feel Guzman will end up becoming just another in the long line of boxing "what if's..." All the skill in the world but he just can't seem to put everything together. He could have been widely considered one of boxing's finest fighters by now.
I think he's already reached that stage.
At his age, with his apparent lack of dedication, there's far more chance he'll get beaten, by a fighter way below his talent level, than do great things. Which is a shame.

No argument here. The Campbell fight could've been his last chance. I'd love to see Funeka lay him out.
Re: Guzman-Funeka in the works!
good fight. this is what guzman should have done before, fight top contenders. i favor the lanky funeka on the strength of his destruction win over another slick boxer in zahir raheem. imo funeka will have no problem with the slick style of guzman.
Re: Guzman-Funeka in the works!
That's possible Fenster but if he comes out and does to Funeka what he is capable of doing, Guzman can be a top guy at 135.
Re: Guzman-Funeka in the works!
Solid fight and for Guzman sake its time to get back at it and not let it pass him by....I'm not sure Funeka has the beard to press forward and he should use that mantis range and outside ability...close wise,Guzmans hiatus, etc. If he can get Guzman to step forward maybe half the time,I go with Funeka by a few.

Oh yeah he was beating Raheem who was slick, that knockout came after the bell though but I didn't see the fight changing. But I don't see that happening to Guzman

but it is also a recipe for disaster. he thinks he still have his power which he clearly left at 122. he tends to open up and square up which he did against soto. if funeka catches him then we will see how much chin he has considering he is in his mid 30's

Blimey, hope not. That would be a travesty.

I think Guzman can beat Fuenka no problem. I'd still back Guzman against ANYONE until he's beaten. Just saying the way his career has gone it wouldn't be a surprise if he turns up soon looking old, and never lands a marquee fight.
