Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
Oh teath i just wondering how do you think Roy while do against Pavlik if they fight i havent seen your take on the fight which surprised me.
Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
Lacy is - was - and always will be a total bum.
Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
Gee that seems a bit harsh he has fought some good fighters. I watched this one and enjoyed it. Lacy as already mentioned only had one plan and couldn't adjust. I was VERY surprised at RJJ'S speed in this fight it was unexpected. He was up to his old tricks which was fun to watch.
Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
Jones looked really good, but I think that was more due to the level of opposition. Calzaghe got Lacy when he was still semi decent and duffed him up in a special kind of way. And then the torn rotator cuff. Lacy has been pretty shot ever since. Even Taylor looked pretty good against him. Really worn out goods, but ideal for Jones to flash off some combos against.
Against this kind of opponent Jones might go on looking flash for a couple of years. But if he steps it up to a Calzaghe style level then he will get gunshy and outworked.

To everyone that says "it was Lacy" look at the fact Roy is the only person to ever stop Lacy and he dominated him the worst anyone has ever dominated him. And I'm sure if Roy fought Danny Green and beat him people would just say "well Mundine already did that" seriously some people were picking Lacy saying if Roy layed on the ropes he'd get knocked out and now that Roy won everyone wants to say "Well it was just Lacy".
Seriously when Pacquiao knocked out Hatton no one said "Oh Mayweather already did it, Hatton was always overrated" no they said "wow Pacquiao just beat him in better fashion then Mayweather he is p4p the best" but Roy just beats Lacy worse then Calzaghe or Taylor ever did and stops him and people wanna say "it's just Lacy"
The thing is, when Calzaghe fought Lacy, Lacy was a live dangerous opponent. Sure, he was overhyped to some extent, but he did something to gain that hype, it didn't come from thin air. Its not like Calzaghe just exposed him and now Lacy is an exposed version of the fighter he was - he is an utterly broken fighter. Jones' win over Lacy and Calzaghe's win over Lacy have to be thought of in their context. Joe Calzaghe has a hand in every fight Lacy takes part in. So that is why he is now 'just Lacy'.

Exactly.
Calzaghe's win was much more meaningful because of the time it occurred.
If you reversed the situation, Roys win would have gone down as one of his greatest ever too.

Evander wasn't "just Holyfield" when James Toney stopped him. Heck people still even use that fight nowadays as proof that James was better at Heavyweight then Roy and would have beaten him when they fought.
It's selective in the minds of boxing fans in terms of who they want to give credit to.
If a fighter wins more impressively against someone then it seems to overlap the previous accomplishment depending on who they want to hype.
Mayweather's victories against, De La Hoya, and Hatton had more meaning if we went by the time they fought. But it goes unnoticed in terms to how much credit to give Mayweather because Pacquiao dominated them both in spectacular fashion.
So in my opinion it's all selective, while what you're saying about Calzaghe is true, the same situation could happen to someone whom people generally don't like and it would turn into the exact opposite.
Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
Roy's like the Wizard's Version of Michael Jordan..he can still be an all star, but against more active top level opponents his age will show...there are flashes of the prime roy but he still looks old even throwing his combos they've lost more than people realize.
And those talking about Pavlik, This version of Jones would beat him worst than Bhop. Pavlik's lucky BHOP didn't really throw more combos or he would have been stopped. Pavlik was already one dimensional at 160, with the extra 8 pounds, that fact was accentuated against bhop, and against roy another 6 pounds would totally do pavlik in... roy would stop him just as he did lacy... The persons who could beat jones right now between 160-174, are BHOP or any of the six from the tournament plus DAWSON, but BHOP is the only one that I think would be a favorite..the other seven I'd favor Roy 2-1....Although he doesn't throw enough to automatically beat dawson..

Oh ok, i see what you're saying. We're in agreement i think. With regards to Mayweather-Hatton-Pacquaio, I would agree with you that we shouldn't give Pac more credit for dominating more, Mayweather fought an unbeaten champ that had never been knocked out, coming off some good wins while Pacquiao fought a guy that had recently suffered a heavy knockdown which was followed up with a bad performance in which he was almost stopped again (Lazcano). In the context of the fights Mayweathers victory was as, if not more, impressive.
Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
I'm with Mjaesty here - granted it's not exactly the same situation but even so the selective attitudes show...
Pac beats a Hatton who has already been brutally beaten before quicker than PBF did it... it some how makes him better than PBF in people's minds.
Roy Jones beats A Lacy who has already sustained a brutal loss quicker than calzaghe did it. Using Pac fanboy's logic this should make RJJ currently better than Joe Calzaghe. It obviously doesn't work like that but people will decide it does - when it suits them.
One rule for the fighter you love and another for the ones you don't...
Re: Jones Dominates Lacy!!!
Well for a 40 yr old guy RJJ showed great speed, apparently the power goes last so I was impressed.
