Hey Kel!!!
Good to see/hear from ya again.
Another thing that I think should be factored in with Hopkins that most people don't is the fact that Hopkins makes EVERYBODY look bad.
No shit...I have never in my life seen a fighter that can totally take everyone out of their games.
Seriously...I almost walked out of the Hopkins/Wright fight due to the fact that it was almost unwatchable. I'm a huge fan of defensive boxers & tacticians...but Hopkins totally shut him down & he seemed confused to no end...that's Hopkins' game to no end.
He's the shit. No doubt!!!

I guess you're a fan, so nothing personal, but Joe who? (It's a Canadian thing)
Anyways,, there's an element of truth in my comment.
In a few years Joe will be pretty much forgotten by all but his hard core fans. Nard will be remembered though.
True

I feel like the first Taylor fight was close but i give it to b-hop or maybe a draw, i wont argue with a taylor win though. Second fight i clearly have hopkins winning. I felt hopkins beat Calzaghe aswell. He landed the more effective shots and while calzaghe just slap his way around missing alot of the time.
Re: Which active boxers could beat Hopkins right now?
Just dont see an immediate threat nearly as imposing as father time and the dreaded 'getting old overnight'.Size, volume and endurance may combine to make that happen,Kess,Adamek? But until the fat lady has taken the stage and tunes up her voice, I cannot help but see Hopkins exploit their lapses and take them into deep waters for win.
Thought for sure that a clash with Dawson was near, lean even more so to Hopkins now.Dawson seems to have taken a big step sideways rather than forward as far as career momentum.Said 40 yr old Tarver took him out of his game in rematch...can only imagine what Hopkins could achieve against him!
Re: Which active boxers could beat Hopkins right now?
Wacko, welcome back.....now listen up! Bernard Hopkins doesn't fight 12 full rounds, Hopkins ROUTINELY gives away the first part of the fight which is why Jermain Taylor beat him TWICE.
Hopkins is old, he's got limits to his game that he didn't have before, and someone who is flawed but youthful enough to outwork Hopkins always has a chance. Kelly Pavlik just got outboxed plain and simple, I think Jermain Taylor had it closer and may have even won the rematch. Kelly Pavlik can be outboxed, not because he's not talented, but he allows himself to be outboxed.
The sad thing about this question is that we never got to see Bernard fight anyone really serious at 160 during his prime, he was green when Roy took him to school, the only big names he fought up until Jermain Taylor were Oscar De la Hoya and Felix Trinidad who started at much lighter weight classes.
Re: Which active boxers could beat Hopkins right now?
Father time catches up with everyone, if he fights again it'll be ANOTHER year on his clock since Pavlik so hard to say. But if we're judging by his recent form, well like Wack said, no one looks good against him.
I like Kess, and as a JC fan it would serve my purpose for him to do well, but IMHO I think Hop would make him look bad. When it comes to beating great retreating fighters like Floyd and the Nard or even JC (though he rarely had many guys came forward to him) you need to close the distance better than with Kess' herky jerky footwork, and while Kess can counter well off the backfoot himself the Nard won't give him the opportunity.
Re: Which active boxers could beat Hopkins right now?
I listened to a recent interview with Adamek, talkin about signing to fight with Hopkins at cruiser in January on On The Grind Boxing radio. Adamek would have a great shot at a KO IMO, but him aside, I don't really see anyone else. Maybe Williams could get up there in a couple of years and give him all kinds of problems, who knows how long Hopkins will be around for. One thing is for sure that if he sticks around, someone is gonna knock his whiskers off for real..... Although he's probably too clever to stay around for that day....

despite the fact hopkins pretty much lost the last 6rounds to calzaghe??
i had it 115-111 for joe and would probably see way to giving it as a 114-113. But no way did hopkins who only won 4rounds all fight deserved to get the decision. Joe was the only one instigating the clashes and hopkins was completely nackered by the end.
Do agree he got the rough end of some bad decisions against taylor though. It was a peak JT against hops who was shot at the weight and should of moved to 175 a year earlier. Still had the 1st fight a draw with hopkins winning the 2nd by a good 2-3 rounds!!

Chad Dawson
Roy Jones
Andre Ward
