Marquez called out Floyd as well though, Floyd said this was a tune-up fight, Marquez took the money and agreed to fight on Floyd's terms. Let's be honest here there is very little Floyd could do to not have any excuses made for his victories save the two I mentioned. The fact that PAC is smaller would most definately become relevant after the fight, there is no way you could think that if PAC were to lose to Mayweather the weight issue would not be brought up. Same with Mosley you really think if PBF beats Mosley the age thing won't get brought up?

Didn't Floyd fight ODLH at 154? If that is the case, he could fight Pwill there too.

Maybe, but not as much. Mosley looked sharp in his last fight and has looked sharp in a few fights recently. For competitiveness sake, I'd rather see a PBF v. SSM fight than a Pac v. PBF fight.

Mayweather is a better outside boxer, not a better fighter. He has to prove he is the better fighter by who he fights inside the ring to get that label. Face Mosley, Margarito, Williams and get that recognition with actions not words.

He went that high because of the mega payday. He wouldn't get enough money to go back there by fighting Williams. Boxing fans would look forward to it, but the general public would not pay to see Paul Williams.

yeah, but they would pay to see floyd up against a real challenge and fighting williams at 154 would be a hell of a challenge, although i doubt floyd would take it.

Williams at 154? Never happen.
Case 1. Williams beats Pavlik and then he will have all the bargaining chips to fight anyone at 160 and have the percentages in his favor (at least against any othe Middleweight). It will clearly show a dominant size differential that in no way, shape or form would get Floyd into the ring with.
Case 2. Pavlik beats Williams and Williams has very little bargaining power.
Either case, the risk/reward ratio isn't there realistically. If Williams weigh's 154 at the weigh in he will be over 170 on fight night and still have a reach longer than the Klitschkos. To have that option against the possibilities of Pacquiao/Cotto winner, Mosley, Berto, Margarito (when he comes back) all have a much better risk/reward ratio.

Cotto sits abreast the division to the people that count. Floyd deserves to be at the top of the rankings but in truth, beating a blown up Jr. Lightweight in the Welterweight division, nomatter how highly regarded should not dictate a spot at the top. Does his talent level say he belongs there? You'd be hardpressed to find someone to say no... But the fact remains that prior to fighting this last "welterweight" contest he was inactive for 2 years. He should not be ahead of Cotto.
