Hmmm...they made an interview with Mike Tyson after the fight(on german tv at least)...and thats exactly what Tyson had said...a younger Vitali would have knocked Arreola out early...

It was very refreshing to see how emotional he got after the defeat, that shows big-time desire to reach the top. Most fighters can stay merely sullen after defeat, consoling themselves with the fact that they just made a fortune, but not Arreola. He had a full-blown breakdown of despair after the fight was stopped, and you could clearly see just how much it would mean to him to be world champion.
Maybe he will be the one to give the division a much wanted injection of passion and desire, and possibly remind people that being the recognized Heavyweight Champion of the boxing World is one of the most glorious titles in world sport, a fact that seems to have largely descended into obscurity with the viewing public over the last few years.
Respect to Arreola, and of course Vitali, who is almost surgeon-like with his breaking down of opponents. So patient and methodical, it may not always be pretty to watch, but you have to admire his skill in doing what he does so effectively.
No doubt Chris is a force to be reckoned with but in the last round he looked like a zombie with nothing but bullheaded determination keeping him locked in his forward gear while getting hit with everything Vitali threw and at this rate I feel Cris would have would have went down if the fight had went on. Well anyway David Tua is getting back into the mix maybe we could see him and Chris dance.
Glad they stopped it. Cris was taking way too much punishment and he had no chance of winning. Hope to see Cris again. Vitali and Wlad are pretty much unbeatable at the moment and until they retire or fight each other, there's not any real challenge to them.
Wouldn't mind seeing Cris fight Wlad. I expect he would lose, but he's got a much better shot of tiring or catching Wlad.
Well #1 After this fight Cris is going to need to beat another name oppponent and Sam Peter is still a name and he still has power and a decent chin #2 Sam Peter looked like shit vs Eddie Chambers a BOXER, Arreola is no boxer, he's a tough S.O.B who always wants the KO....I think the styles match up well. Eddie Chambers has a solid defense, he'd be difficult for Arreola to beat to be honest.
Both of them need to get in shape though.
In regards to the Vitali-Arreola fight, I think people overlook Vitali's seeming lack of power...to me he looked a little older and it wasn't just the grey hair, that fight may have worn Vitali down a bit for the next fight he has, I hope I am wrong though. That's a lot of moving and punching for an injury prone older fighter.
I think Arreola could have been 25 lbs leaner and it would not have made a difference. He has improven on his boxing but could not match Vitalis skillset.
Actually Vitali said Chris was very preparred for the left jab and was suprised by his movement,he had a great chin and he had big respect for him....maybe he was just being nice, but he showd respect afterwards.....lampley should stick to calling punches that do not land.
Agreed Spicoli, Arreola showed everything he had in his arsenal and I think he could have planned forever for this fight and Vitali would still have picked him apart. I was impressed with Arreola's conditioning, he was still throwing good hard punches after the 8th which is the farthest he's ever been in a fight before. Arreola's defense was pretty good, he didn't allow for the usual Vitali combination swat the guard down & right cross...Cris did everything he could have, the style and skillset just put him at a disadvantage, but IMO he did the best since Lennox Lewis or Corrie Sanders vs Vitali.
I think Larry Merchant called the fight very fair even though he was 100% cheering for Arreola, that's impressive seeing how Larry usually just speaks his mind and he's usually dead damn wrong. But in this case he gave Vitali lots of respect and never had any delusions of grandure about Arreola during the fight. Props to Larry for that.
By the way FUCK Mark Kriegel! He wrote a scathing article about Cris Arreola and he even mocked Cris getting emotional. It's obvious that asshole knows little about boxing and for him to have no respect for a guy that laid it all out on the line like that it's just uncalled for.
Arreola didn't punch enough to beat Klitschko - Boxing News - FOX Sports on MSN
Like too many reporters they place too much blame on the opponents of the Klitschko's and give the Klitschko's too little respect...."Arreola didn't punch enough"....well it's kind of fucking hard to do that Mr. Kriegel when you're getting slammed by a 6'7 252 pound knockout machine...oh Vitali may look "mechanical and vulnerable" but the only losses on his record are due to injuries and even then Vitali was ahead on both scorecards! Nobody has made Vitali look vulnerable, not Lennox Lewis, not Corrie Sanders, not anyone and those guys blasted him with some heavy shots.
So I say again FUCK MARK KRIEGEL...keep your simpleton ass away from boxing!
Agreed I thought he was going to go sooner but like you said he seemed prepared.
I though Chris looked the best physique wis that I can remember another 15lbs and he would actual;ly look decent for a HW.
He showed heart I just hope he did not leave his best in the ring in the result of a beating.
I am an Arreola fan now based on his effort alone, he is no push over and with a bit of work has a future
....eh I think if you're going to KO Arreola you're going to have to sit him down a couple times.
The pressure Arreola was applying would worry Wladimir more than it bothered Vitali...Wlad likes to set his feet and punch
How about Vitali's output?? He was almost on pace to hit 1,000 thrown if it went the distance.
He was throwing 80-90 a round. I thought he might gas out and Arreola have a chance, but Vitali never slowed down. Really impressive performance by VK
props? what props is there to give a man who can't show up in shape for a championship fight and puts up a fucking dire performance?
Very surprising workrate mate, especially at his age. The Klits have had a few boring fights between them and I myself have said so but you have to respect the discipline and dedication to boxing they both show. I wonder how long Vitali will fight on for? He looked about 28 last night.
All these people slating Chris for crying are fools and would probably shit in their shorts at the sight of Vitaly stood opposite them.
