- West Ham/Millwall FC (English Football): Well, hooligans from both side and their rivalry is well documented, I've learnt recently by a few nice guys here that one was from irish and the other from scottish origins, a damn firce rivalry with roots deep into the celtic lands.
- Boston Red Sox/Yankees (Baseball): The Curse of the Bambino, the Legend of Fenway Park vs the core of New-York, it is all here, pure hate breathing for the Steinbrenner family on one side vs accusation of jealousy on the other.
- Auburn Tiger/ Alabama Crimson Tide (American University Football) voted second biggest sport rivalry by the sports illustrated, these two can't stand each others, it's all about how far from which stadium you're born and in Alabama, peoples sleep, breathe and die by the sword of their respective team, which side are you on, boy?
- Boston Celtics/ L.A Lakers (Basketball) It's all about the East vs the West, The constant and relentless impact of Lary Bird vs the eternal wizardry of "Magic Johnson.
not sure if we get coverage of ice hockey in the UK? but i worked for an emigration company & the boss was canadian & in the office they had a massive poster of the canadians beating the americans in some competition? cant remember which one tho?
Was it the Americans or Russia? IF the American, probably during one of the world cups, if Russia, what they called "the series of the century" at the era of the Steel Curtain when Canada did beat Russia 4-3.

Personally, I do not hate the Browns at all... their outfit is perhaps the ugliest ever but hey, you get the coolest supporter ever in the person of Big Dawg Thompson;)

Re: Biggest Sports Rivalry
In football, I doubt there is a bigger rivalry than Ranger v Celtic - that has 400 years of political history behind it and is absolutely fanatical.

As a Glasgow man I cannot agree more , but then I am biased. it goes deeper than just the game, that has just become an excuse for hundreds of years of religious rivalry. Actually quite glad I am well away from it all now.

One of my friend went to Glasgow to teach french for a year with some program which I forgot the name, when they arrived, they had a briefing where they got explained to never answer Rangers or Celtics if asked which team they were for, anything but one of these for no reasons whatsoever. That friend said that 2 of the teachers from the school he was in got a fist fight because a discussion involving Rangers and celtics along the way. I was quite staggered.
Re: Biggest Sports Rivalry
Yep, most rivalries in sport are simply based on the sport itself or local derbies or differing social classes etc... but Celtic and Rangers goes way beyond all of that. They have been a factor in civil wars and everything. It's an almost inhuman intensity they have towards other at times.
It's mostly sectarian and violence is a common consequence when their fans clash on the streets. I myself have seen a guy get absolutely brutalized in Northern Ireland for simply wearing Rangers shorts. 3 (presumably) Celtic fans just battered him relentlessly until they were physically restrained... it is frightening. :-X

Re: Biggest Sports Rivalry
The Texas / OU rivalry's been going on for nearly a century now so that'd make it near the top, I'd imagine.
