I've always felt Tito was vastly overrated, & with the suspicions about his handwraps, I just don't know. Even though there's a big size difference, I look at what Oscar, Winky & B-Hop did (although all were obviously bigger) & I think that Mayweather pot-shots him to a wide UD. I also never saw how people saw ODLH winning. Even giving him every round where he did something, you can't come up with more than five in his favour for me. I thought it was a typical Oscar fight, where the HBO commentary team made it far closer or far more favourable to Oscar than it actually was (see Oscar-Shane I & II, Oscar-B-Hop, Oscar-Whitaker, even the Sturm & Forbes fights).
Although the Featherweight Mayweather vs Tito doesn't even bare thinking about.

floyd and tito pretty much put in the exact same performances in beating hoya.
They were both getting beat to the punch early on but both eventually went on to win rounds 8-12 which ultimately gave them both 115-113 wins. Neither put in there best performances above de la hoya because the occasion warranted cautious approaches rather than either man becoming over zealous and allowing oscar to get the upper hand.
Im talking about the trinidad that whopped whittaker, camacho, carr and the floyd who did similar to hatton, marquez and judah.
Trinidad would have the superior jab while floyd would probably have the faster hands and foot movement.
Power wise id have to go with trinidad while floyd would probably have better tactics and be able to dodge a big trinidad right much better than anyone else ever has...

Re: mayweather vs trinidad
Trinidad would have beat him down. I don't see how he couldn't have really.
The size disparity would have been immense. As far as hypothetical matchups go, I think it would be quite fun considering my dislike of Floyd.
I don't actually hate any fighter, but I do develop aversions to them. Floyd is certainly one of those fighters.

ummm bud that's the funniest thing i've read in a while, winning rnds 8-12 would only be 5 rounds, so it'd be 115-113 in favor of DLH not Mayweather or Trinidad, and if you had either fight scored according to those rounds, don't ever become a judge lol
Re: mayweather vs trinidad
I say Floyd outclasses him. Just too fast, too clever. Tito didn't deal well with speed, look at what Oscar did to him (one of the biggest robberies I've ever seen).
Re: mayweather vs trinidad
I dont really know..
Floyd with his fast feet, hand speed, quickness and All time great defense, pitted against one of the best Welterweight ever produced. Trinidad at 147 was a very special and great boxer with helacious power...
The one thing that leans me to Mayweather is Trinidads legendary lack of plan B and his chin. I can see Floyd beating Tito to the punch frustrating him with his footwork and reflexes and counters. When I mention Tito's chin its more to illustrate that he certainly landed on his ass early from flash knockdowns, which would prove detrimental from digging himself in a points hole and having to play catchup... Floyds boxing intelligence always seems to exceed or at least compensate for any perceived disadvantage he faces against an opponent...
Then on the other hand your talking about Tito's power and crisp punches, could he shatter the Mayweather guard and slow the pretty boy down enough to do some serious damage? Perhaps.... I just dont feel any certain outcome is a fore gone conclusion. Both fighters possess great intangibles.
I dont think there is a wrong argument from either side as long as its well thought out, certainly a case can be made for either one to be victorious ;)
Re: mayweather vs trinidad
I think Floyd would have a field day with Tito the same way he beat Diego Corrales. Tito for all his power could be outboxed and made to look silly ie Winky Wright beat him with a jab and tight defense where Floyd has speed a laser jab when he uses it and can either stand in front of an opponent and make them miss or dance around them and pick them apart. Floyd by lopsided decision or late round mercy stoppage.

IMO no way does the much smaller Mayweather stop Trinidad, when the bigger stronger, DLH and Wright failed, hell it took Hopkins 12 rounds to do it, and Jones (who could've stopped him from the 6th round on), IMO Mayweather would either be able to avoid Trinidad's later round onslaught to win a decision, or he'd get stopped and badly beaten

Agreed Tito was a vicious puncher and Mayweather would not handle that power. He would run and try to survive hoping to catch Tito.

Different strokes different folks. If it goes into the late rounds then its all Mayweather I just hope that there would be no low blows to change the course of the fight =). Lets not forget an older Pernell Whitaker not including the knockdown had his moments with Tito. I just think that Floyd would be to smart and his speed would be too much for Tito to handle.

i'm not ruling out the possibility that Mayweather could beat Trinidad, but i honestly don't see how he could stop him, hell he didn't even stop Marquez, Tito took shots from the very much harder hitting Vargas, Campas, Joppy, etc.
Re: mayweather vs trinidad
mayweather by late stoppage imo.
de la hoya gave felix fits and althought made mayweather work probably lost by a point or two. mayweather probably had another 2 gears to go up to as well.
imo he would confuse the hell out of trinidad worse than hopkins
Re: mayweather vs trinidad
I find it unbelievable that anyone can rate Mayweather at Welterweight. Floyd would have trouble with opponents Tito beat like Carr, Campus and prime ODH. Tito punched too hard and would be too big for Floyd. What is the best welter Floyd has fought? Judah? He is not in the same league as a welter. Below that weight yes, he is an excellent fighter but at welter he is not.

I doubt that. If we're talking the Mayweather at 147 he would beat Trinidad with Trinidad chasing him but not landing much and Mayweather pot shotting him. Trinidad would lose a one sided decision and then say that mayweather didnt' stand and fight and Mayweather would be panned by critics and fans alike that he ran to beat Trinidad when if they are intelligent they know that if Mayweather stood and traded he'd get KO'd. It is a loss that wouldn't harm Trinidad's career at all. But if Mayweather showed he could hurt Trinidad it could be a really long night. As people with Trinidad's style are something of custom made for Floyd. If we are talking the now Floyd at 147. Because back then at 126 even if he weighed 147 he wasn't as experienced as he is now.

yea, i could see Mayweather landing potshots and running the entire 12 rnds to win a decision, but if he couldn't hurt small guys like Judah and Marquez i doubt he'd be able to hurt Trinidad in any way
