Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
I thought Dirrell had an excellent chance in this fight based on his showing against Oganov.
But having seen his fights with Rocha, Stevens and Hanshaw the man has serious chin concerns. I think it will be an early night for Dirrell.
If Dirrell has the chin to match his handspeed then we have a superstar on our hands. I just don't like how he handles pressure. (From lesser fighters than Froch)
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
Dirrell has looked great ever since the Stevens fight, which was an absolute stinkout borefest. I disagree with you welsh, evertime I have seen him catch a good shot he responds or ties up right away which is good, shows he has his wits. He has stopped everyone since Stevens, who is a pretty strong puncher.
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
Froch doesn't even apply smart pressure he doesn't really pressure you with his feet and give you a small target he does almost the opposite. I initially thought along the same lines as OumaFan, with Froch being this ignorant he has no idea what is going to hit him here. Dirrell has the type of athleticism that usually gets guys to the NBA or NFL, he is of a different class Froch should enjoy the ride now he is in for a very rude awakening.
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
From what I saw of Ognav - he was five foot 6 'tall' and was constantly off balance.
Not the toughest to look good infront of... ;)
Yes he's pretty 'athletic'... but that's not the be all and end all in boxing. Who cares if he's suited for the NBA? ??? lol... he has to be suited for boxing and no doubt he's got talent and potential at this stage in his career, considering what he's done so far and what I've seen of him - he's going to have a hard time standing infront of Froch for 12 rounds.

Your a moron
taylor/pascal had all the attributes of these supposed NBA type fighters yet they both got outclassed by froch
Taylor is a far better fighter than dirrell can ever hope to be and if you seriously wanna believe that an espn guy fighting bums can jump up 3-4 levels and beat the tournament favourite then your as thick as i thought you were!!

He's not fighting Kessler. ;)

I agree completely. It is a different skill set. You don't need a chin and toughness in the NBA and you don't need height in boxing. The NBA is a game; boxing is a war.
I like Dirrell in this fight, but he is going into the snake pit. Dirrell needs to stay outside, pot shot, and win rounds. He'll be in trouble if he decides to trade with Carl and he'll be in trouble if his stamina fades. Has Dirrell ever fought for twelve rounds?
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
OK I think you guys have taken what I said and ran with it. Of course it's a different skillset but Dirrell has been boxing since 9 of course he has that skillset. Also the Showtime broadcast had Oganov being 5'9 not 5'6. That's worth noting because Dirrell is big, he's 6'2 and in the ring will look much bigger then Froch imo.
It doesn't even matter, I was just pointing out Dirrell's athleticism, it's there and it'll win him fights at this level if he can apply it correctly. Still, this is less about Dirrell (who I'm not a full believer in) then it is about Froch. He had good wins versus Pascal (who is not Dirrell) and Taylor who fought a dumb fight and Taylor just isn't a sharp puncher. He just let him hang in there to long, if that wasn't a blowout on the cards going to the 12th it's only because of Taylor's own sloppiness. I just think Froch has put together a couple wins but he can DEFINITELY be outboxed, if this was Froch vs Ward I think it would be open and shut for a Ward decision. Dirrell gives Froch more of a chance to win because he has that tendency to become unglued and stand right in front of guys in the midst and after those long combinations he puts together.
Also I don't think Froch is the tournament favorite, hopefully no one does. You'll see Saturday hopefully Dirrell puts it together.
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
I'm just pointing out his athleticism, it's amazing and that type of athleticism can't be ignored especially against someone with as many holes as Froch. Also he did go 10 rounds once against Curtis Stevens (watch it if you dare.) It was the farthest thing from gutsy but the reputation of Stevens preceded him, he was one of the most ferocious amateurs in the country in his day and he wanted to make it knockdown and dragout action so Dirrell stayed outside...the whole 10 rounds. He could just as easily (easier probably) do the same things to Froch but no chance he is that passive for 12 rounds against Froch. But he can do it and he can win on pure foot and handspeed alone imo.
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
His athleticism is great but that means nothing unless he has the arsehole to back it up.
All my spies on the inside are telling me Dirrell will bottle it.

He's an inch taller than Froch and has less than half an inch in reach over him, hardly gargantuan.
Sorry, you're right, Oganov is just pushing 5 foot 9...
It was his most recent opponent, Derrick Findley who was 5 foot 6...
He might be stronger than two pumped up middle weights (arguably light middle in Derrick Findley's case) but he's not going ot be stronger than Froch, that's one thing you can count on.

Secret ones. ;D
Re: Froch vows to knock out Dirrel
Ive said all the way through this if dirrell can land a monster in the 1st couple of rounds he`ll stop froch there and then. The jury is still very much out on froch as he did go into his shell through the first half of the taylor fight and chucked away his superior skill set in order to regain some confidence....always a bad move
But technically he is a league if not leagues above andre dirrell who i regard as a heavy hitter that should definitely one day win a world title. Froch will get found out by kessler when they fight but he should have enough for AA and will be way too busy for me to envisage dirrell being to win in any other manner other than landing sharp early on against a guy who takes time to grow into a fight..
either way..its gonna be a night to remember!!
