I just SUGGEST that Ali isn't my #1 Heavyweight Champion of All-Time and all of a sudden I'm some kind of bigot (as per usual) even though I have Joe Louis at the top of my list. Something about if you're running backwards it's easier to land clean & effective punches. Not only does that show a complete lack of understanding of boxing & it's scoring, it also shows a complete disregard for physics.

Lyle, where exactly did he suggest you were a bigot? I read what he wrote & what you responded & all he was doing was complaining about your Haye obsession & how you said Ali was nothing special. If he did say or imply you were a bigot, could you please point it out to me?

I said its easier to land counter effective punches if your the guy refusing to engage because you can just as easily jump onto the front foot as your going backwards.

I've never thought Lyle was a bigot, you on the other hand are. Lyle is a respected, intelligent poster. You're the successor to Trainer Monkey, Zelenoff & Kid Thunder.

I can understand where hattonthehammer is coming from re: fighting while going backwards. If you're a defensive fighter and a counter puncher you're naturally going to be more effective by baiting your opponent to throw more punches (which is why lots of counterpunchers leave their lead hand low, that invites more right crosses). The more your opponent chases you and the more punches they throw then the more opportunity you will have to counter.
Is that roughly what you were trying to say?

I was just explaining how effective counterpunching works for a defensive fighter. There is more skill involved with being a counterpuncher than just being a slugger or a plain old boxer/puncher because if you mess up your defense you can get caught easier, if you counter too early you can get caught with the tail end of a combination and if you wait too long to counter you can get beaten with just the jab.

The aggressor more often than not will have his chin down, hands up and will walk down his opponent. The counter puncher however due to his movement around the ring is able to throw the odd curve ball something the front footed guy simply cant do.
Dirrell was able to land big on froch because carl basically had to spend the entire night chasing him down and in doing so andre was allowed to jump in with his lead every so often and follow it up with a right hand

And the (one) way to beat a counterpuncher is to force him to lead off.
Which means if you are naturally the aggressor holding off from throwing.
