Gotta ask you though, do you think Hatton gave Floyd a better fight than Marquez? He gave his all and got sparked but I can't think of a round where JMM looked dominant.
He gave it his all. Which I do give him credit for. But his style is what makes it look like he gave Mayweather a better fight than he actually did. But he easily lost his composure. And after that he lost his head and got more reckless than usual. Marquez never lost his. He was just out classed. If Hatton wouldn't of got knocked out, than yeah I would say he gave a better fight than Marquez. But he did. And with the comical effect around it, it's hard to say he gave the better fight
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
hatton might be shot already but i still think this will be competitive while it last
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
I think Marquez definitely wins this, but Hatton can't 'WIN' anyway.
If he wins the fight, Marquez has already just been dismantled in his last fight and is far smaller than Hatton ;)

Definitely. He'd be right aswell. He deserves to be p4p king.
:-X
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
I don't get the reasoning behind this fight.. if he does pull off the win, he hasn't really accomplished much. He's beaten a fighter who was outclassed in their last fight, nearing retirement, getting old.. and more importantly doesn't belong at 140.
I'd much rather see him come back and fight someone like Bradley, but I guess it all comes down to MONEY at the end of the day.

Thats all to do with styles.
Hatton is a swarmer and Marquez is a counter puncher plus include the fact Marquez belongs at 135 possibly even 130 where Hatton belongs at 140 and is somewhat effective at 147.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
I seriously hope this is in Britain. I really want to see Marquez live, I've seen Hatton KO'd live before so there won't be any new value in that, but hopefully Marquez will give me a few more rounds to soak up the living legend that he is. Hopefully Hatton's chin can hold up to the late rounds.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Hatton apparently struggled to make 140 last time and now he's closer to 240. He's basically spent the last year on the piss, he's ancient for his style of fighting when you take into consideration the number of fights he's had and the way he's had to lose so much weight so many times, he's only going to be a shadow of his former self. He'll spend his entire training camp trying to get to 140. JMM may be older and smaller but he's in far better physical and fighting condition than Hatton and he's got exactly the wrong style for Hatton to face.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
Styles make fight's and to me this is a pick 'em fight. If Hatton has something left in the tank he will give Marquez problems. First off Juan Diaz gave alot of problems to Marquez in the early going, and did have him stunned a few times. That fight was at 135 I am sure this will be at 140 were Hatton has been at a little bit longer and is much stronger than Diaz . If it is at 147 Marquez has no business being up that high I think he could get seriously hurt and yes even from Hatton. Just the physical attack of Hatton (bumping, clinching, wrestling) will be alot to handle for Marquez. Marquez is sharp but he doesn't punch that hard at the higher weight's even at 135 he had to hit Casamayor, and Diaz with everything but the kitchen sink to get them put away. It will be a great fight and if it does happen I will always go with my man Marquez. Let's see it.

Yeah I agree. I think he lost his head at the weigh in and took that into the fight with him. Cortez had a mission that night too which pissed him off even more and the knockdown which led to the KO....Yeah I gotta agree Marquez had a better fight actually.

Marquez slugged it out with Casamayor and Juan Diaz and they were both very competitive fights for several rounds. I would regard both as being practically shot fighters.
Hatton couldn't cope with the blinding speed of Manny and the technical brilliance of Floyd but Marquez is getting old, is more flat footed these days, is out of his weight class, and imo hasn't looked like an elite fighter since his fight with Pacquaio.
I think Ricky can win this fight, and actually have a sneaking suspicion if he got himself really fired up he could finish him with a body shot. I dunno, just a gut feeling.
Juan Diaz probably fought one of the best fights, he's ever fought against JMM. There was certainly nothing in that fight, that suggested he was shot, and Joel Casamayor although not at his best. Was still a good opponent and still could beat most Lightweights.
And Juan Lazcano who spent most of his career at Lightweight, and is certainly no Jr Welterweight. Managed to badly hurt Ricky Hatton twice, so don't be so sure that JMM can't KO Ricky Hatton.
JMM did stop Juan Diaz, Joel Casamayor, two fighters who have never been stopped. And Joel Casamayor has a very good chin, and Juan Diaz has a pretty solid chin too. Ricky Hatton's weight is all over the place, and his chin looks more shaky than ever, there's certainly no way im choosing Ricky Hatton over any elite fighter at this point, especially JMM.

I can see Hatton looking to jump all over Marquez much like in the Diaz fight. I also expect it to end the same way....unless it's a bought and paid for british ref who leaps in to rescue Marquez. Thing is Marquez has much better punch resistance than Hatton at all the weights he's fought at, he's also the cleaner puncher and has a better defence. Hatton has natural size and we assume punch.
Because of the variables it makes for an exciting match up.:) I'd buy a ticket.
Re: Hatton V marquez agreed in principle
A revlitalised and reborn hatton shows the world of boxing what all the fuss was about for all them years and outworks marquez to take a comfortable points decision.
No way marquez beats hatton at 140....
