Joshua had his chance and blew it. He showed he could take Pacs power but didnt do anything about it. Reminded me of Mcullough against Nas. He took his shots but what next? Pac will be beaten when a guy takes his shots and punches back. Floyd and Shane spring to mind but a limited guy like Clottey had no chance when he wasnt letting his hands go. He would have made any fighter look good that night with those tactics. Disapointed in him but Im sure he will come again cuz he is a gatekeeper.

Clottey knew the instant he attempted engage he simply couldnt handle pacquiaos speed and movement and simply chose to spend 12rounds not taking too many risks and hoping for pacquiao to make a mistake
He now has on his record that he went 12rounds with pacquiao in the middle weights, something no man has yet done

Yeah I agree he chose not to take too many risks but what Im saying is that its a pretty poor attempt to fight a smaller guy whos moving up in weight and spend 12 rounds in survivial mode. He should have tried to test Pac abit. Pacquiaos been knocked out before and although he's improved alot since then, its isnt proven thats its because of performance enhancing drugs. Pacs still human so Josh should have gone for it instead of saying after the fight that Pac doesnt hit hard cuz it makes him look more stupid.

Yeah, it sure look and sound stupid for a fighter to cover up for the full 12 rounds... unmindful of any possible counters or chances to win you the fight, and then proclaim afterwards that the opposition's punches didn't hurt you. This is the height of hypocrisy on display at the very least.

I only remember Fenster calling for an upset and that wasn't for any rational reason, except Pac had almost all the advantages and it was his time. Go ahead and look back through the threads and see how many people picked Clottey. The biggest discussion was Pac by wide UD or late KO. That covers this forum.
As for the boxing media in general, they only talked about how big he was compared to Pac to make it sound more interesting to sell tickets. I don't think anyone there picked Clottey either.
This wasn't like his ODLH and Hatton fights where it was 50/50 in picking who would win. This fight was predicted to be a blowout and it delivered.
As to the original question, Clottey has always been reluctant to engage. He's always been one to wait his turn.

I have always disliked Clotty, the way he always stops fighting in the later rounds, the way he acts like a flopper when any punch goes anywhere near his medal cup(remember he pulled this bit on Cotto even after Cotto said nothing about the Clotty headbut that caused blood to flow right into his eye) and now for the way he behaved against Pacquio.
Hopefully his big fights are done.

Here's the thing.We would not be talking about steroids if weren't for the mayweather's.Any time a fighter come along and runs throught the opposition everyone starts screaming foul.Clottey has never been knoced out.He's never been down.I wasn't looking for manny to knock him I was looking for fight to go to the score cards.It just amazes me that even after this clottey fight and manny passing the drug tests that people would still be making steroid allegations.Manny is by far the pound for pound of this decade.I think that Floyd should welcome the challenge of facing a fighter who is as good as he is if not better.The Floyd followers should want to see their fighter have to elevate his game to another level and show us how he good he really is.As manny's trainer said in the ring after the fight that"Flod needs to let the boxing commission do their job and come and fight them".

Pacquiao just doesn't give time to engage...Look at most fighters or fights...One guy gets off with his combo steps back resets in the meantime looks to avoid getting hit....
With Manny he throws 5,6,7,8 or more punches at a time and just as he steps back he is in again...He never stops coming add that with speed you miss and it allws him to get in 2 or 3 clear shots w no defense to cushion the blow...Just too much at one time

Not re-watched the fight sober yet but although I was annoyed at Clottey for covering up and throwing nothing at all, Pac did make it very difficult for him. Literally every time Glottey dropped his shoulders to throw something Pac was already on him. Pac gives you absolutely no time at all...
Where as Pac may not hit as hard as other fighters at this weight/level he's definietly one of if not the quickest! This more than makes up for any supposed lack of power.
On a side note, has the tread starter got a link to this comment as I haven't read that anywhere? A good judge of Pac's power would be Cotto and do remember him saying how surprised he was at Pac's power...

Pacquiao's speed, workrate and angles is what overwhelmed Clottey.

What killed me about that fight was that Clottey would land and get Manny of the defensive. Pac would back off and cover up, and Clottey gave him the time and space to recover. He was landing well. He did some damage to Pac and he could have done more if he would have just followed up his own work.
