Freddie Roach.
That seems like somebody who cares ..... twice.
Re: Roach turns down Hatton...
If this is true then i am not surprised! Outside of the ring Ricky lets himself go with the heavy drinking and take away meals! Roach won't take on somebody with that sort of habit!
Hatton is a british boxing legend and has done Britain proud!
King Khan will reign supreme!

i'm pretty sure he would, but anyone who says that Mayweather Sr. didn't help with his defense is pretty blind
I think his defense was more solid when he was with Alcazar because he had better movement. It seemed when he got with Floyd he seemed to be more grounded and took more flush shots. He used alot of shoulder roll when he fought Gatti but I didn't see alot of it in later fights. Sturm got through alot with just a jab and Forbes got through and fractured his cheek bone and Pacman tore his defense apart. I'm not trying to start another thread but I really did not see alot of improvment under Floyd Sr.
Forbes and Pacquiao came due to the fact that he was shot, and IMO DLH's defense was plenty sharp against Mayorga, he caught a lot of the punches on his arms and countered nicely

Freddie Roach refused chance to train 'washed up' Ricky Hatton - Telegraph
The quote that sticks out is "
If he wanted to fight Amir Khan, that's one thing. But I couldn't train Ricky. I said I think he should retire. He's washed up."
Seems to me his concern is his own reputation rather than Ricky's welfare. He doesn't want to be associated with a losing fighter. He has no problem training somebody to beat the crap out of him & make money off it.
So please let's cut the 'Freddie cares' column because he's concerned for how it looks on him not that Ricky shouldn't be fighting any more.
I don't agree with you Jaz: As Roach doesn't chose who Khan fights and cannot force Hatton not to climb into the ring, why it should be hypocrisy? If Hatton wants to fight and be trained by someone else, that the promoter and your fighter both want the fight, there is nothing much you can do and it would quite odd to say to your fighter: "I am your trainer, you're clean to fight but I do not train you for that one".

the fact that he's even mentioned Morales' name as a possible future opponent shows that Roach doesn't give a shit about fighter's health

1) Morrales and Hatton cases are far different
2) He mentioned it because it's what he wanted or because that's what the promoters had in mind and he was only voicing it? Also, as I said, he can't be responsible if the promoters and both fighters want it. The only thing he can be responsible about is the fighter he trains.

He should focus Khan on proper challenges. If he thinks that it's not safe for Ricky to fight any more then he most definitely should not be angling for a fight where his fighter can beat the guy up. Roach has a habit of this. When he thinks a guy is on to a losing streak, he decides to stop training them, even if subsequent events prove they are far from shot, he doesn't want to be attached to a loser. He did the same with Hopkins & Penalosa, even though he had originally said he would train Hopkins after the Calzaghe fight, once Pavlik became the opponent he pulled out.
I like Freddie Roach in person, when I met him he was a nice guy, but the fact is he likes to be attached to the big-name guys who he thinks are going to win. I've nothing against him for that, but let's not turn him into a saint for it.

yea willing to take on Morales is far worse, he's naturally smaller and IMO more shot that Hatton, don't be naive, Roach is the one that's pulling the strings, he puts his two cents in to who Pacquiao's opponent is going to be, hell the talks of a Foreman fight are the perfect example, Arum kept bringing up the fight, Roach said no, Arum in a later statement said that it wasn't a possibility anymore (and this was far before Cotto/Foreman), Roach is just as bad as King, Arum, and all the other dirty bastards who try to cash on a big name even if the guy shouldn't be in a ring anymore
Re: Roach turns down Hatton...
Roach imo cares about his fighters, although he may not care about his fighter's potential opponents. Anyway it's a trainers no. 1 priority to look out for his fighter's health and career not the potential opponent. If the other guy like Hatton or Morales wants to step into the ring and fight Khan, then you can't blame Roach for taking that opportunity for his fighter.

I don't, but I also don't think he should be made into some kind of hero for saying this. I believe that while he cares about his fighters, he also doesn't want to be associated with failure.
Re: Roach turns down Hatton...
Sound advice from Freddie. It was a great ride while it lasted for Hatton but the party is most definately over.
